Some success, I did find the HO part(details west NB 136) on ebay, and a set is on it's way to me now!

I did envision an upside down u shaped piece of brass, and the FUD box attaches to that as well, and it would probably work best too..


RS-3?..This is for the Arnold SW-1s..

I just came back from vacation - brain not fully engaged yet.    But in my defense, I've seen photos of RS3 #1509, 1511, and 1514 with similar number boards.

I just realized that  if you will mount these by embedding the legs into the shell, you shouldn't have to worry about the curvature. Just make the bottom of the legs slanted. The using the leg part as a reference score the lines where the slots have to be cut in the shell, then using a thin razor saw or hobby knife cut slots into the shell. Then glue in the legs.

Actually, because of this project, I have found a couple of sources for RS-3 numberboards as well. They came in different versions depending on how many spaces there were for the digits. The B&M ones you mentioned were 4 digits, which I have. I needed the 5 digit ones(for MEC RS-3s), which JnJ makes, as well a 3 digit. I think my 4 digit ones were from Minis by Eric or Detail Associates.

So far I've found these on B&M SW1s, SW8s, and SW9s. They are also found on SP SW8s,SW9s,SW900s, and SW1200s from what I've found, maybe others too.

That makes more sense than FUD.  Lost-wax brass castings would be nice.  If they are hollow one could mount a 0402 or a 0201 SMD white LED inside and illuminate them.

@coosvalley and of course others, Keystone Customs now offers a rendition of these.

Thin glass or black styrene with whilte lettering finishes them off.  Recess is 0.27mm (0.011") deep for 0.010 thick material.
