NCE Decoders in Atlas Master Line

I just bought my first Atlas Master Line DCC equipped units that use the NCE decoder.
I picked up all 3 numbers of the Northern Pacific GP-9's w/Torpedo Tubes.
Does anyone have any experience they care to share about these decoders, either good or bad?

I was under the impression that any decoder manufactured by an established DCC manufacturer (like NCE) in the last 15 years or so includes motor control based on BEMF.  Are there specs available for this decoder which specifically indicate that the decoder doesn't feature BEMF motor control?  Maybe on the NCE website?  I have never personally used NCE decoders so I can't offer any specific comments.

I just had some Lenz decoders put in some locos and WOW! The momentum (BEMF) is built into the chip from the getgo and it is sooooooo sweet! I have TCS and Digitrax decoders in other locos that need lots of tweaks or diddling with CVs and all that confusion to get anywhere close to the built-in qualities of the Lenz. Yes, I know it's easy as pie for you techno DCC wizards but I'm not one of those. I was thinking of getting an Atlas DCC/Sound S-2 but if I have to spend hours figuring out and setting Cvs, I'll get the nonDCC.
