Flat car loads anyone?

The thread for the new MT military cars and tanks got me thinking about a couple of my projects that have been on the back burner for a while. I've always been intrested in heavy machinery and have wanted to model a train load of John Deere and Caterpillar equipment. However, finding suitble pieces has been a little difficult though. Athearn had some fantastic tractors that I started to pick uphere and there. But as luck would have it Athearn hasn't produced any more and they've pretty much disappeared. I also found a nice combine that is darn close to N in the toy section at walmart called Mini Machines.  They too disappeared quickly and only surface on ebay from time to time. GHQ has a few items that fill the CAT roles well but again some have become scarce. There are the NORSCOT pieces, but those appear to be quite a bit larger than N and each scaled diffrently from each other. Modern heavy and farm equipment is one area N is sorely lacking in. So, has any one else put together a group of these?

The green was a little to lime...  so, I gave it a nice new shade. Not perfect, but matches pretty close to me.

Here is a scraper from GHQ and a large loader disassembled for shipping, also from Mini Machines.

GHQ Komatsu excavator, it'll get the CAT yellow though along with two others, since there hasn't been any actual Caterpillars produced.

Looking good,if you haven't already check with local farm equipment dealers .You might also check with a local Catt dealer as they used to have  key chains with various pieces of their products which are quite close to N scale.

I'll have to check out those keychains. It's been quite a while since I have been to a Deere dealership. I use to look at the Ertl toys back when I went there for tractor parts. Never thought about a CAT dealer though. Oh yes, wiking! Completely forgot about them. They look nice too. I'll have to see if I can find some.

Probably going to misspell this one but Bosen Toys stocks most of the key chains or at least did last time I visited their website.

Norscott made an excavator that was pretty close to N scale

T was right I did definitely misspelled Bossen. To make up for it here's a link right to the keychain page.

Catt:  It likes like nothing on that page is close to N scale.  Most of it might be usable for TT.  The "JD 6920 and accessories" attracted my eye, as the accessories, at least, would be passable for 1974.

You can generally buy Wiking models direct from Germany at a reasonable price.  I have had good luck purchasing from DM Toys.   https://en.dm-toys.de/liste/hersteller/Wiking.html

Nice crawlers altohorn. Those look like they Allis Chalmers HD-21's? I like the shoring detail!

CATT, Those are some really cool looking keychains. I really like that Steiger 600. But, at 1/128 that is too big, at least along side anything that is actually N.

cfritschle they are pretty reasonable! The price per piece is less than the Athearns were and shipping is only $12 no matter how many you order. Looks like I'll have to get a few of bot the 8430s and 6420s.
