The risers have been glued into place and are pinned until the adhesive (Loctite Power Grab) sets.  I was going to use the same adhesive to glue down the track, but Unitrack is hollow underneath.  Since that would require huge globs of adhesive, I think I'll look into double-stick tape to hold the track down, unless someone has a better alternative for securing Unitrack.

I used white glue along the edges and followed up with ballast. The track has held well, even with a move.

Dave works as a surgeon does!  I think most of you would be surprised at just how messy my work tends to be...  Dave probably doesn't spend half his modeling time looking for stuff.

The rest of us mortals, OTOH...  That I can misplace something on my workbench is testament to the fact that for some reason my "Alles in Ordnung" gene does not accompany me through the hobby room door.

When I did my daughters "family layout" with the Bachmann EZ Track, I used adhesive just where the solid cross members were. It really wasn't that many globs and they're under the track for the most part,

Hot melt adhesive usually works well for attaching Unitrack to foam and you really only need to apply the glue at the outer corners of each track piece. Same may be valid for the Loctite Power Grab, but you might want to confirm that with a spare section of track and scrap piece of foam.

Find the cheapest water based (not silicone that smells like vinegar) caulking you can find at HD or Lowes.  They are really cheap and you can still use gobs of it if needed due to their cheap price.  :)  Also, they are removeable should you want to salvage the tracks in the future or modify the layout.

All great ideas.  Thanks, guys!  But, this post quoted wins.  I remembered that I had some low-temp hot glue and fired up the hot glue gun.  Twenty minutes later, and it was finished.  The layout is back in its place, wired up, and the track has been kid-proof tested with high speed runs of the North Pole Express in both directions.  Next up: terraforming.

Awesome stuff here. Dave, I hope, if Aly should lose interest partway through construction, that you'd consider finishing her layout. Maybe even make it a little more "adult" with proper structures and such. It would otherwise seem like a waste.

So far, she hasn't lost interest.  In fact, I asked her to "carefully" help place a few push pins when I was securing the Woodland Scenics Risers, to allow her to be a part of the construction.  Now, that the critical stuff, e.g., table construction, subroadbed, and trackwork, is done (I still need to apply fascia at some point, though), I will have her be much more involved.  She'll enjoy that, and I hope it keeps her interested in "her" layout that she helped build.

Yes, if she ever loses interest, the plan is to finish it as you suggested, so it's not a complete loss.

Thanks,
DFF

EDIT: Oh, and as long as I have this N scale layout around, it will hopefully keep the TRW's N scalers off of this proud HOer's back.

She will NOT lose interest!  :). Don't even think like that.  I am living vicariously through DFF!  :D

I think that "THE RAILWIRE: Where H0ers are tolerated" would make a perfect banner image (probably because I coined that word and you embraced it).   8) I'm thinking that for the image we could have a piece of H0 track with an N scale engine sitting in between the rails.

Something like this Peteski? *runs for cover*

Back to the topic it is wonderful to see this layout progress and hopefully we get a taste of scenery soon! Absolutely a great hobby to share between generations and time you will always remember.  :D

HOers are people too.  They'll love you no matter who you are.
