My HS German teacher was decidedly not so...  We used to refer to her as Frau Cow behind her back.  Aber sie war ein guter Lehrer, der an der Universität Heidelberg studierte.  Und so erinnere ich mich noch einmal Deutsch noch 25 Jahre später.
unfortunately, i passed German I and II in high school by the skin of my teeth...teacher was the basketball coach (which I sense made the difference)...but i did nail Hebrew and Greek some years later. :D

Coincidentally, on a railfan trip to Sand Patch two years, @Ed Kapuscinski introduced me to the term "train-f*cked," which is when the train that you want to photograph is blocked by another train.

The difference was probably that you had to study German but chose to study Greek and Hebrew.  I do not know that much about German, but those with whom I have discussed it state that both Classical and Koine Greek are more difficult than German.  One of the difficulties with deciphering either of the Ancient Greek tongues is the verbs. Both of them like to compound verbs with prepositions.  In  Classical Greek, prepositions taken out of context are relatively meaningless.  I will not even get into the extra tenses and moods of Greek verbs.  Modern Greek dispenses with much of this (as it also does with the dative case).  If you compare the Classical to the Koine, you can see that the prepositions are starting to take on more narrow meanings in the Koine, but there is still a long way to go.

Funny thing, too, most Latin scholars will tell you that it is almost more important to learn German than it is to learn Greek, as there is so much scholarship in Latin done by German academics.

One of the advantages of going to Jesuit high schools was that there was the opportunity to learn Greek.  This meant that you got to avoid listening to a priest tell you not to act like  a sixteen year old.  Instead, you read the New Testament in its original language, honed your language skills and learned about theological debate.

Wasn't rail related, but made a trip to Ed K-land on Saturday (Aramingo and Orthodox Sts. in Bridesburg section of Philadelphia) for a kielbasa run. Followed with stops in Port Richmond for cheese steak pierogies (Czerw's) and early lunch of potato pancakes at Syrenka's.

No trains were injured in the making of that transportation.

One definition of "depot" is "a place for the maintenance of military or naval equipment".  By extension, a railway maintenance facility could be considered a "depot", although I haven't seen the term used that way in the US.
It always has been used that way in the US! Hell we still call our maintenance buildings depots.
