I am new to this forum. I posted on an old topic in which member narrowminded posted his home made tiny flanged bushings in nylon or plastic which I desperately need for my DCC conversions. An automated response warned me that since I was posting on an old topic I might not get any answers which is what did happen.
I hope that since this is a new topic I will get some responce and if I am very lucky perhaps manage contact with narrowminded.  The two N scale british steam locomotives on the title have the motor built into the chassis, this makes it a must to replace the botom copper flanged bushing with one that isolates electricity rather than make electric contact.
The entire subject is explained with pictures in the following  nscale.net topic.
http://www.nscale.net/forums/showthread.php?43040-Graham-Farish-No-1816-Dutches-of-Hamilton-and-No-1827-Prince-Palatine-DCCconversion.

Thank you for your help.

Welcome to the forum.

That warning you saw is a standard warning when reviving older thread - your message was posted and I read it.

As far as @narrowminded is concerned, a PM to him should have worked. Maybe he is busy and not checking the forum.  I would give him some time.

Maybe a guy with low posts can't PM someone yet.

Maybe a guy with low posts can't PM someone yet.

His first post stated "I have sent narrowminded a private message but it doesn't appear in my  sent messages." so he was able to send a PM.
The reason it did not show up in their sent messages is because the default PM setting is not not to save outgoing messages.  To save them one has to tick the check-box to save the message before sending the PM out.

Sorry I didn't get this sooner.   Do you have good dimensions?  If not or maybe preferred, a sample part?  I suspect this is something that can be done and I'd be happy to help. 8)  Where would these have to ship?  I'm guessing outside the USA.

Thanks, great, that was quick! I've been trying to contact you for over a week.  Mailing inside US is fine.  I would prefer privete info to be sent on private message.   Did you receive a private message from me? Did you check out the link to nscale.net ? There are the dimensions as close as I could get them. You can read them straight from the calipers. There is allso a reading from a member that seems very accurate.

I see no edit button so I'll add this here.

It seems that the dimensions, best I can read them from the pictures, are as follows with no dimension for the bore through.

Flange OD            3.8 mm
Flange thickness     .3 mm
Barrel Diameter   2.36 maybe 2.4 mm (angle from the camera shot).
O'all Length          4.3 mm

It would be best all of the way around to have a sample part.  That way I can be sure they are correct.

I've seen enough to know it can be made.  These would be machined from Delrin (Acetal).

How many do you need?

Hi All,

Just out of interest you can get these ready made here.

https://www.dccsupplies.com/item-p-100525/digi-hat-the-easy-way-to-convert-graham-farish.htm

I didn't look to see what the US shipping would be but I am happy for you to get them sent to me and I can forward them on very cheaply.

Cheers,

James

Shipping probably wouldn't be bad.  I have purchased CT decoders from a British supplier and I don't recall shipping being much different than domestic.  Also, no VAT tax.  Pursue that if it's the part needed and if stuck or an exorbitant cost, we can still make it.

I have written to dcc supplies and to Wickness in England,  both of these firms make the part but it has been dificult communicating with them. I have not managed to get a shipping and time of delivery estimate.  Expenses are minimal but they will most certainly take a long time to arrive.
I only need 2.  I'm sure your measurements are acurate enough.
I still would prefer for you to make them narrowminded.

Sounds like Jamesn320 lives in UK and is willing to assist. Maybe he would have an easier time dealing with the company that makes those parts?

Let's get one sent to me as a sample and I'll make you four to match.  Start a PM for all of the details.  I will turn them around pretty quickly once I get one. 8)

Yep, I use these 'top hats' a lot, normally I get them delivered next day or with in two days.  I think Royal Mail takes 5 to 7 days to post to US for £2.25 ($3).  Anyway happy to help if needed.

If your making some, make sure the brushes are a lose fit inside the sleeve. Otherwise the spring wont keep enough pressure on top of the brush which pusses it onto the armature. I've fallen into that trap before!
