BLW has just listed a closeout sale for Red Caboose coil cars.  Limited numbers in stock, 13 roadnames and some with multiple road numbers are available at the time of this post.

Scale Model Supply in St.Paul MN still had a pile of these. The details are low grade compared to the newer Atlas cars. You also have to add weight to them, they are pretty light too.

They do have a handful, and judging by Pete's email he sent me telling me he couldn't fill my order, it's probably single digits left.  They are still showing CNW, GM&O, Reading, and DT&I in stock. " These are all discontinued. On most we have but 2 - 3 pieces / road name. First come - first served. Please list alternate choices.  "

Remember, Red Caboose was bought by Fox Valley some time ago.

I'd suggest if Matt sees there's a market for these he'd jump on it - and you know he'll improve on the original...

When his personal life improves - and I'm sure it will - it's gonna be VERY interesting.

True, but the Atlas car is a much more modern car (1990s+).

FVM has announced another run (6 roads), but release date TBD ...

That group of six was announced years ago, even before the FVM acquisition. They went TBD months ago. As a modeler of 1990's Chicago and NW Indiana, I needed tons of these. The original version is actually a pretty good car considering it was tooled over 15 years ago.

If anyone is really in a pinch for some of these, having downsized from a large IHB layout to smaller switching layout, I probably have 40-50 of these......pre-weighted, MT trucks (some with trip pins cut as per my layout standard) Downside is very few having the detail parts attached (never could glue those suckers on) and many don't have boxes, so I would have to secure them for shipping some other way.

On the upside, they will be cheap, as my biggest goal is to find them a new home and reduce my clutter.  PM and I will start digging through my boxes.....I think there would be a few IHB, many EJE, and a few each of most other roads

The Atlas cars all have build dates 1997+ so they're really for the modern modern modeler. The RC ones are needed for the pre and post-caboose eras,

You could pretty much say that about any product.  :D

Correct trucks and coupler boxes would be nice.

Damn, I hate going to that site.  Every time I stop by to look at something, the release dates are pushed back again.   :x :x :x

They should really rename the page from the coming soon page to "coming at some point, maybe, but probably not, oh wait, everything you ordered 3 years ago is going to all show up within 3 day window " page
