I spent my Saturday reenacting Korean War FAC at Udvar-Hazy (the NASM's annex near Dulles). Was a great event, especially since the group I belong to whipped up a timeline display showing the evolution of the Forward Air Control role in WWI (USAAS), WWII (USAAF), Korean War (USAF), Vietnam War (USAF), and Gulf War (USAF), as this year is the 70th anniversary of the US Air Force. Each conflict had a tent, gear, uniformed personnel, misc "site dressing", and signs naming each war and decorated based on how the typical FAC aircraft would have looked during the period.

Plus, towards the end of the day we got a flyover from a B2 stealth bomber. Thing's as quiet as a church mouse till you're in its' wake. United had a new 777 on display for walkthroughs and cockpit tours, and rumor has it that they were giving out free black-eyes.

... Free black eyes ?

Dark humor about the recent airline "customer service" issues.

Paid up airline reservations are the ante up to see who's actually flying somewhere.

My weekend is a little later than most people's, so my progress pics are late too. 2 different uses for the same Showcase Miniatures kit. You can see the radio tower behind the Skally HQ and the new fall protection system over the flour cars.

One advantage of traveling on a historic train is that your luggage is never lost.

I was part of the NKP 765 engine crew for the Joliet Rocket out of Chicago on Sunday. With 70 mph running and thousands of people riding and watching trackside, it's a trip I'll never forget.

After putting the engine to bed last night, I was surprised by how long the human body can go without sleep, and be nourished only by peanut butter ritz crackers and left over shrimp cocktails. :P
