My latest project. What a great kit. Went together without a hitch. I am thinking about getting another one.
Next will be adding a road up to it and clearing out some grass around it.

Thanks,
Wolf

I had an old Detail Associates trailer sitting around and decided to paint it up NP.  It was warped beyond all recognition so I put it in some hot water and and did my best straightening it out.  No decals are available in N but Black Cat http://www.blackcatdecals.com/ has done them in HO.  I was able to convince them to do them in N which they were kind enough to do.  Unfortunately,  they did not render well and I had to double them up to get a thick enough white and to make sure the lettering was solid.  All in all it turned out well.

Warning!  The following post involves HO scale.  Warning!

I installed my first under the table switch control tonight.  This is the Bullfrog Turnout Control from Fast Tracks.  Eventually it will get a control rod kit and have a knob in the fascia to push and pull the turnout throw:

I also started installing cork roadbed:

I did a bunch this week, but took a pic of another structure. This is all styrene, even the pilings.

It is compressed (a lot) to fit my layout. Here is what it will look like when all grown up:

In the time it takes for most to complete track work for an entire layout, I finished laying a turnout and two pieces of flex, one of which was a redo:

It's also the golden spike for this layout, not saying much considering two turnouts and 5 pieces of flex but I'll take it :D

Finished these guys up this morning.  These are old Life-Like FA's that I forgot I had.  Milled out the rear weight to add a decoder, changed out the incorrect chime horn with two singles, added the stainless detail on the pilot, filled in the gaping hole on the pilot for the old rapido coupler and added a MT Z 905, added unimates to the rear of the A and both ends of the B, added numbers to the numberboards, sealed it, and weathered it a bit.  It doesn't run like a Kato, but it's not too bad.  Will pull around 30 cars on my home layout with 19" radius curves.  Overall, I'm happy with it.

Working on my Flexi-Vans. I cut a Trainworx Trailer down to 36 feet (probably the best slice and splice job I have ever done) to accompany the 40 foot version.

I've probably done more modeling in the last couple weeks than in the previous 2 months.  Found a great deal on some MT trucks on ebay, and at the same time, opened up a packing box full of 1/2 finished passenger car projects.  So I have been busy with decals and paint and assembly of several things I started years ago.  The ones closest to completion in the photo below.  Sorry for the phone pic on a worktable, but no layout for the time being.
[ Guests cannot view attachments ]

Cars in the photo are (left)
Kato obs decaled (FEC HS decals) for FEC Lake Worth (stand in)
Rivarossi baggage with lettering redone and numbered 1845 (ATSF had several cars similar to the 1849, so this is sort of close)
Rivarossi kitbash baggage 1858 (representative of cars rebuilt from coaches)- oops on the center axles, I them here somewhere
Kato 6-6-4 sleeper in CN colors as a stand in for Green series sleepers

(right)
Cent Oak and Centarch - 8-1-2 sleepers kitbashed from Rivarossi 12-1 cars- I started these before the MT cars were available
RPOs 61 and 79= M&R sides on MT cores. Pecos River Brass trucks (I have blackened wheels in some other box). Still need their mail hooks and some other details, and steps cracked off of one while prepping for the photo- so still some work to do on those.

I have a mind like a steel trap...a VERY rusty, old steel trap.

Altohorn,
Nice  work on the ALCO cabs. I had two 3-unit sets of these on my previous N scale layout. They were noisy, but heavy and would pull whatever I coupled to them on level track. They ran as well as any of my Atlas & Kato locos.

I have started work on my summer project: the station at the Division point of Nelson BC.  It started with a bunch of research into how it looked in 1970 as the station has changed frequently and considerably over its 117 year life.

The next step was to draw and engineer the model so it can be assembled from appropriate materials.  It will follow the same basic construction as the Castlegar station (last summer's project) using subwalls and roofs to hold everything square and then overlaying styrene siding and paper shingles.  However this time the sub walls and roof elements are laser cut, as are the custom double hung windows and doors...all 72 of them!

I will be trying a different technique for the shingles a well...one being pioneered by my friend Rene Gourley.

The first batch of window elements and their assembly jigs arrived from RSLaser last week and I assembled a few of the reject parts into test windows (5 pieces per window but painting is a snap.)  The mullions are about 0.010" thick.

I should see the balance of the laser cut stuff in a week or so.

btw: I can highly recommend Richard Shepard at RSLaser in Oregon.  He is helpful and easy to work with and turns parts around very quickly (and get them across the border with minimal hassle!).  I first used him for snowshed bents many years ago and this is the fifth project I have worked with him on.

A great structure and a great amount of work! Nice.
The laser cut windows are impressive...what kind of .010" material does he use?
