Haha, you know what's funny? I was thinking "please don't be Conrail, please don't be Conrail...".

My poor wallet! hahahaha

But seriously, thanks Craig (and Steve).

I'll take some NYC and Conrail and a few Chessie 8). Hey Craig love all the hoppers and all the variations you've brought to N, please consider doing this for Tankcars too! They would sell quite well too we need good 70s era Tankcars.

Which ones of these have roller bearing trucks? I have a mess of these from previous run, and they are solid.

Clinchfield and Western Maryland have roller bearing trucks. Please note, truck style is chosen based on what is accurate for each road name. Yes, that includes friction bearing trucks on some later paint schemes such as Conrail. The last new freight cars delivered with friction bearing trucks came in 1968.

Although the retrofitted trucks are rarely seen in interchange these days
Craig

Retrofitted trucks were banned from interchange shortly after Solid bearing trucks (~1995)...
The extra metal around the bearing acts as a heat sink and fools hotbox detectors...

Would love for someone to make a converted truck in N scale...

Roller bearing conversion kits were popular as far back as the mid 60s.  I have no idea when they were introduced.

That's interesting. I assume it would fool the detectors into NOT tripping when they should and not the other way around?

By the way, if we can nail that down to the exact year, I'll add it to the Timeline Resource Page: http://www.bluford-shops.com/bluford_93_024.htm

That correct, the extra metal would hide an overheating bearing.

Friction bearing trucks ban dates;
Jan 01, 1991 - for cars carrying hazardous materials.
Jan 01, 1994 - All other cars.
Jan 01, 1995 - Cars with converted friction to roller bearing side-frames.

There were some exemptions granted for car owners who could not comply with these dates. So, some cars did last a little longer in interchange after the actual deadline dates.

Luckily, these are just out of my timeframe.  Although it really doesn't make much difference to Bluford's sales, because not buying any from this batch just means I will buy more of the previously announced C&EI cars.
