For you Conrail fans....

It looks like the truck from a Kato MP36PH would be the way to go.

This is the only Blomberg truck I know of with the worm built in.
It has an axle snubber, but that's a small detail.

And they are in stock at multiple outlets inc Kato.

For example....

Just mount an 11-105 motor on it like on my FLEA and you are ready to go!

The REAL trouble with building The Bug is building the surrounding Enola Yard to have a place it makes sense :)

It shouldn't be a problem.

Just build the BUG and then take it to Todd Treaster's house!

Or model any of the other 'bugs' stationed around the system (I know if at least 2 or 3 others... )
BTW was this a Conrail or Penn Central idea.?

I wonder if anyone tried this in the 50s?  It would seem to be easy to build a diesel-hydraulic on a truck, using heavy equipment parts.  Many crawler-type machines are hydraulically driven, and replacing the electric traction motors on a diesel truck with hydraulic "motors" wouldn't be hard for a well-equipped shop.  Put the engine, pump, and controls on top, and you have a homemade switcher.

Where are the controls?  Or is it remote control?

Getting there...    :D

Same little motor as on the SD40-2 truck in the TP56 build thread.

Whose EMD truck is that with the offset gear tower?  Is that really a Kato?  It almost looks like it has wheel wipers rather than end-axle pickups....

One of those 'I see it but I'm still not sure I believe it' moments.

Do the sideframes come off?

Randy, that's the Kato MP36 truck. Looks like I'll have to design a shell for this unit too. I'd be interested to see how the couplers get mounted as there isn't much space. You might have to use True Scale couplers without the draft gear box and perhaps the whiskers cut off.

Makes me think if you remove the sideframes you could build a "helper" power truck for those darn Athearn Bombardier draggers…

Except that the outside bearings look nothing like the inside-bearing Bombardier bi-level cars.  And if the sideframe assembly is removed nothing is holding the metal bearing/pickups.
