I wonder if those gons are going to be plastidipped like the previous runs.

If not, they're nice cars!

Also, neat boxcars.

Always good to see more N scale cars available (and that Athearn is still serving the N scale market). Are the paint schemes on the gondolas accurate (ie- at least similar to gondolas owned by the given railroad)?  The description given by Athearn makes it difficult to determine.  I bought some years ago painted for ATSF as the historical society listed them as models of (or close) Ga-47 or 48 classes.  Could use some help on other roads, and what dates the roads used them.

I have a mind like a steel trap...a VERY rusty, old steel trap.

More recent runs have had much nicer paintjobs. The car isnt quite ESM quality but provides a nice variation

It's cool to see more of the gondolas, hoping they do the tri-level racks in N soon.

I am happy to see the nineteenth century stuff, again.  I was wondering if Athearn ever planned any more.  Ma&Pa, PE, NYCs and two SP subsidiaries.  I would have hoped for these two SP subsidiaries, though:  Hell Either Way You Take It or Hell On Texas Contractors.  (Houston East and West Texas and Houston and Texas Central, for those not familiar with SP).  Still, I will take what they render.  I will probably buy the Mississippi Central, as well, since southern roads are underrepresented on my nineteenth century pike.

I can't speak to the other roads, but Wabash went with red (box car or mineral red) body paint and a larger WABASH on the sides in the late 1950s.

This class was on the N&W roster in 1969 (312000-312049, former WAB 12000-12049).

I would speculate that the Athearn paint scheme on this release is good for 1942 (build date) to the early 1960s.

I love the M&PA boxcar.  I'm guessing, though, that with truss rods and archbar trucks it would not have been in interchange service with the Pennsy in 1956.  Too bad!

However it could be the crowbar that makes you do a vintage layout in N Scale .

The CNW car brings up something I've always wondered about their logo.
The car is as built 1958 but has the "system" version of the logo, is this correct?

Where do the "railway" "employee owned" and "system" versions of this logo fit in?

I thought the "system" logo was the most modern version but this car is counter to that.

I noticed that the gons listed body mounted couplers and working drop ends.  Since none of mine have either, they must have made some major tooling changes.

These cars went anywhere, to any destination that needed long steel pieces? Even if seen all over the country, did that mean most of them were owned by railroads serving steel-producing regions only? NH, NP or WP wouldn't have had any then?

The dates I have for the "modern" logo are:

"Line" 1902-1944
"System" 1944-1957
"Railway" 1957-1972
"Employee Owned" 1972-1982
"System" again from 1982

Can't really say on the Athearn gon. Assuming Athearn is right, I guess it's possible P-S didn't get the memo on the logo change? Pure speculation there. The order could have been placed before the change to "Railway."

The 52' covered gons acquired late were the only gons owned by NH that were longer than 42'. Nothing over 42' prior to 1960.
