Strange browser activity
« on: May 26, 2017, 07:00:49 PM »
When I am on TRW, the page is constantly reloading,  I'm guessing in the background because I can view pages, threads, topics etc but when I click back, it may take 5, 10, 15 whatever number of clicks to actually go back a page.  My computer runs Windows 10, I use Firefox and have the current version.  The tab at the top of the window constantly spins the blue circle and instead of the refresh circle at end of address bar, there is the x to stop loading page.  If I click that, the page will briefly stop, then go back to loading countless versions of the page.  In just typing this message, it has reloaded more than 30 times.  I have cleared history, cache, cookies, etc.  Run virus and malware scans and nothing found.  It still happens.  This is the only page I have picked up that it is happening.  I have added a photo to show what I'm looking at.  Any ideas, or is anyone else have this happening ?

I am using the same browser as MU and I cannot go back when viewing pages.  It is annoying but I just have to click on the category heading and go back to the main page and navigate from there to the subcategories.

Other thing I noticed was after seeing the page history showing all the page reloads, if I click, say " home ", and then check the page history, they all disappear.  But then it starts all over with the current page.

Using the same version of FF and Windows 10 ver 1703.

No other problems except not being able to return to the previous page, but it doesn't happen all the time.  I can visit two or three time a day and it happens each each time then next day it doesn't happen one of the three times.  Happens more often than not and has been going on for about two weeks.

When this happens, at the bottom it says

"Waiting for aniview.ns.llnwd.net... "

so I'm guessing it is some adware related issue/problem/occurrence

You probably guess right. It's Limelight Networks. They're an ad content delivery company, serving a lot of high-density media such as video. It might (or might not) be useful to know that Alphabet/Google is not a client, at least according to the Wikipedia article.

Do you have a "browser helper" toolbar or other third-party content-enabler tool installed? These things are notorious for not exactly being malware or a virus, but still will wrench control away to redirect your browser to their content.

https://www.ghostery.com/

But ,, the only ads that are on RW are Google generated .   We have Google Adesense, and Google Analytics .. if you see anything else coming from this site, then someone has added to your browser

I don't have anything extra installed in the toolbar/add-ons etc.

I have installed ghostery and it found 3 trackers here, 2 from google and one called Double Click.  I have blocked that and it has stopped the constant reloading of the page.

Well, turns out it isn't Double Click causing issues here.  Right now, there are 7 advertising trackers here.  I went thru and checked one by one.  Before I shut down anything that wasn't the google related ones.  Found 2 others that cause issues, Sizmek and Pulse Point.  Other sites run those include eBay and YouTube.  When I had double click blocked, zero ads would show on TRW.  Now that I have that open, and the other 2 blocked, ads have returned but no constant reloading of the page.

Thanks for the help !

I'm having the same problem with the tab spinning the blue circle. I'm using the current version of Firefox on an iMac.

Hmm... I'm using my old
Commodore Amiga and
I don't have any problems...
