If I still had my AT&SF railroad I would have loved to model that 2 stencil SF herald on a caboose. It looks kinda neat Tom.

Before I clicked on it I thought it said 'CCS' which I thought stood for 'Centralia Car Shops'.    Which of course would make a good starting point for a model.   :D

Is that ex-Santa Fe waycar being used as a shoving platform by CSS? All the windows are blanked out so are the doors still working?
The double herald is from the second paint scheme weathering away showing the first one. Anyone know how to do that?

I would get something decorated in the first scheme, and then wear away the herald with some very fine sand paper.  Then spray the car a rusty orange/red color, and decorate with the newer herald. And have @peteski make you CSS decals.

Wouldnt that only work if the first herald was pad printed/painted?
I feel like a decal might tear or become discolored in a funky way...
Though at the same time, if one could make a whole car side decal (that was done in a MR issue in the early 2000's) that maybe easier... and save you a bunch of time...
either way I am sad for seeing that once beautiful ATSF boose in such a terrible state..  :(
Dont get me wrong, would make for an awesome project though, and a Centraila Car Shops CE-1 may be a good starting point... as stated by @jagged ben  (too lazy to backspace.)

What if the entire car side was a decal?
I don't like the unrealistic rust profile that the paint builds up on the car sides.

I think that this car is a perfect candidate for that technique. I remember an article on doing a full decal job on a caboose in the N-Scale magazine.

It was an N scale car but I believe it was in Model Railroader. Based on a BN caboose it was quite effective...

Yeah, it was a BN caboose.  Could have been in MR (I subscribed to both at that time).

I am sure all of you would be much happier if I did not exist on this forum as well... This had been happening a lot lately....

Didn't MR do an article on using a decal for stuff like this? :tommann:

I've been looking for the HO caboose.  If you know of one for a good price please let me know.

Didn't someone mention that this decorating/weathering job could be done by using a Photoshopped photo of the 1:1 caboose printed on a decal and applied like a vehicle wrap?  :)
