By the way, even though I'm out of model railroading, I voted for the Mikado, the Pacific, and the Mountain locos. Those would be my first choices if I were modeling a steam layout.

I voted for the Mikado, the Pacific, and the Mountain locos.

Cast my vote for the same... We need more small workaday Steam in N scale...

Of course a DMIR Yellowstone would be a happy exception  :D

Unfortunately, what I really want isn't a choice on the survey.  A 2-8-2 or 2-8-0 Camelback/Mother Hubbard style for my NYOW layout! Joel

Thanks for the tip!  I would never have known about it.

I do wish they had some other choices.  No SMALL steam listed, really, like some 0-6-0 or 0-4-0 switchers, or
a 2-8-0.  Railroads far and wide had a plethora of those, and we need more options for engines like that.

But still, an update to the 2-8-2 and a USRA 4-6-2 would  be really nice.  To be able to get those engines, and their parts, from Kato would be great.

I'm hoping that by USRA 2-8-2, they mean the light one. That'd be nice. Same thing with the pacific.

And I totally agree with Max, I'd love more small steam. I've long wondered why nobody's just started working through the Baldwin catalog. I'd LOVE a Baldwin catalog 2-10-0. I'd imagine the "off the shelf" 2-8-0 would find a bunch of fans too.

Honestly, I bet they'd do pretty well if they did the entire Strasburg roster. More people have probably ridden behind those steamers than any of the other "big names" in mainline steam excursions.

Not fair that they give the HO guys a chance to skew the results.. 

Not trying to be political but it reminds me of some recent national voting in various countries...

I might vote HO since I don't like any of the N choices..

Interesting. So they're considering the big UP articulateds even though (I thought) Athearn had that franchise well-covered. Kato must know something we don't.

Maybe a clue... I have two Athearn Big Boys and a Challenger. Two out of the three are not running, sitting on my bench needing work, the Challenger already repaired once by Athearn. All with under four hours of track time. The Kato FEF-3 I have "just runs". Hmm.

I voted for Big Boy and Challenger because as much as I like my Ahearn model, I would like the Kato better because they would match the Kato FEF better. Also I would like to see what Kato can do with an articulate engine, plus I like there centipede tender design better. I also voted for the Santa Fe.
Which ever side of the track I am on is the right side.

Looks like the results are pretty close so far.  I voted for the Mikado, Santa Fe, and Mountain.  If only there was an option for a USRA 2-8-8-2.  :|

We could desperately use a Hudson in N scale; I don't need the Dreyfuss version, but if they do the Dreyfuss, maybe someone would do a 3D shell for the "regular" version, or maybe that would come later.

Don't see a need for the UP Challenger or Big Boy.   Let's get something new.  A light Mike would be terrific (the Model Power one is dated mechanism- and electrical-pickup- wise) and every Class I had them.  As for smaller steam, well, probably needed, but I'm just not into that era.

It's interesting, though, that they don't seem to want to expand their 4-8-4 lineup to the east coast roads, or do some other late superpower engines like the 2-10-4 which would span a number of eastern and western roads.  I'd kill for a Kato-made Berkshire, but I know it won't happen any time soon.

Even though I'm out of modeling, I think I'd buy a Kato Southern Crescent Limited Pacific (if they ever make it) just to display it.
