I may apply the first coat of paint to the fascia this weekend.  I already bought a gallon of green paint that comes close to matching the leaves on my SuperTrees.

Color for switch pulls.
Yellow and gray.  Or for the color impaired, gray and dark gray. 😉😁
The layout is looking great BTW.

Haha!  Seriously, yellow and gray would be good contrast for me, and I might already have the necessary spray bombs.

Thanks,

This is one of my favorite engines in my fleet: Southern Ry. No. 5025.  This GP38-2 runs well, looks good, and sounds sweet.  Well, it usually runs well.  Recently, it developed a "noise" that sounded like a dry bearing.  Tonight, I tore it apart to get inside, which I was not looking forward to, considering my custom DCC, lights, and speaker installation that I did not want to disturb, not to mention the fragile details on the body.  I ended up having to get into the worm bearings on the rear truck.  I think I got it, though, as it's been running laps for a while now, and all seems okay again.  What a relief to get it back together without damage.

This morning, I applied a little more of the base layer of ground cover in the form of that sopping wet, green strip of ground foam along the layout edge.  I also put a coat of paint on the foam landforms in the corner.  Man, one of these days I’ve got to pull the city buildings and scenic that strip right in the middle of the layout.

I like those pink and white trees. They make me think of the dogwoods, magnolias, and cherry blossoms in the spring.

I received three Rapido Budd passenger cars for Christmas, including one Baggage-Dorm car and two sleepers.  The sleepers are named Southern Pines and Pinehurst, which are local town names for the area that I model.  Here’s a pic from Southern Pines, North Carolina, of the namesake car on the Seaboard Coast Line’s Silver Star.  Just a few months into the SCL merger, these cars are still in their Seaboard Air Line lettering.

On the same day, this consist was spotted in Aberdeen, NC, at the old SAL station.

Merry Christmas!

EDIT: Oh, and please ignore the vehicular anachronisms when I run the 1967-68 era on the layout.  :P

First attempt at fascia paint color.  I was going for something close to the color of the SuperLeafs in the trees: (1) in case the fascia shows in a picture, it would be less conspicuous as a foliage color, and (2) the A&R shelf in the background of any pictures might look like distant hills.  Unless this suddenly grows on me, I’m probably off to the paint store tomorrow for a quart of a different green.  At least the next batch of paint can be purchased in a quart size.

They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder so take my comment with a grain of salt.

The shade of green is way too vibrant. Steals attention from the layout which is the real gem.

@Dave V and @Ed Kapuscinski said the same thing.  I would prefer a fascia that doesn’t draw attention to itself, which is why this will likely be considered a “tinted primer” coat. 😜

I don’t recall the color of your fascia being as in your face, and I would bet that I’m trying to find a color closer to what you have.  My colorblindness doesn’t allow me to perfectly describe what I’m looking for other than to say I think I want a darker green.  The hard part is that my wife likes this green, although she’s only looking at the color and not taking it in the context of a fascia color.  I wonder if Seaboard Air Line Green (similar to Pullman Green) would work, but she doesn’t like that shade of green.

Thanks,
DFF
