It's funny that you say that.  I was thinking the other night about how I wished I had made the folding shelf include all of those yard tracks.  I've also come to realize that I generally do not fold the shelf and have just learned to make sure that I walk around it (rather than into it) to get to the other side of the layout.  If I remove the folding option, then I am not as severely limited in the length of the shelf.  I might be able to add another car length or two to each track.

Do It!  :D
I can't see a circumstance where having more staging/storage would be a detriment and looking at your photos it doesn't look like you're extension takes up usable living space.

Can always keep it "removable" even if it doesn't collapse...
The Railwire is not your personal army.

I still haven't located a baggage car that appeals to me, but I found another car that won't add much length to the train: Oscar!

I had one of these decades ago and was unlucky when searching for a replacement in recent years.  I paid too much on eBay when I saw this car, but we'll call it a Father's Day gift to myself.  The Amtrak paint job is not my favorite of the roads that were available when these cars were released years ago, but the Phase II paint scheme on this "business car" will look good with my other Phase III cars.

It’s gonna be close!  I might be able to pick up another 1/4”, if I ram the F40PH into the end cap of the folding shelf.   :scared:

We’ll find out when Oscar arrives next week.  :)

Mmm.  I might have to scrounge up a used Lima car and bash one of these for the N scale Hi Rail rig...

Are you planning to do a Seaboard Central patch (or paint) job on that car?
It looks like the ideal business car for a shortline.

I'll leave it as Amtrak for now, but the thought did cross my mind.   :)

Make a "drumhead" for the rear railing with one of those round SC seagull logo decals.

Okay, it’s from the wrong era, but it is the Silver Star.  This video (skip to about 2:00 to avoid annoyingly long intro and poor camera work) shows the Silver Star with, get this, two coaches, one cafe car, one sleeper, and one baggage car.  Five cars.  Perfect.  Ed’s Law.  Done.

It’s 1985, and we’re near Southern Pines, North Carolina on the S-Line (former SAL).  A Seaboard System mixed manifest waits in the hole for Amtrak’s northbound Silver Star to clear, so the freight train can then finish its run to Hamlet Yard to tie down.

It tripped me out hearing his voice on a thing at Disney World last year.
