I’m not sure I understand that paint job since the unit was acquired from the SP and was obviously painted fully by the UP.
it’s almost as if the paint shop was goofing around since there appears to be a red SP logo beneath the cab number too.

I think the MMID might be very informative for you here since they patched some ex-BN SD24s.

Here's a couple more examples of BN Patch jobs.

Green Mountain

and
MBTA

Perhaps keep the number and just apply the logo under the window, rather then full SC lettering?

food for thought. :D

Does anyone know the story about that SP tunnel motor? It would be long after SP no longer existed.
Making room in number series? or something else?

I remember that photo from my early days of doing railroad research on the internet. It's an ancient Photoshop. The original is floating around the internet somewhere, I know I have seen it in the past, but can't find it now. Searching for SP 9355 on RRPA and others indicates it was an SP unit from the beginning.

Which only makes sense since UP took over the SP.

Ah ha, then I’m not going crazy then.  The photo does look a little odd and maybe it is a photoshop did cross my mind. But because it’s strange and defies logic it really took my fancy and I may just do it anyway. I just think it’s way cool in an alternative SP universe sort of way.
Like I’ve said before I’m a sucker for anything SP.
Thanks for the idea and the info.

At one time there was a real UP unit ex SP it had a yellow nose instead of the bloody red nose but fully lettered SP.

Painted by a disgruntled SP paint shop somewhere heard the painter(s) were terminated under the Borg for not painting the unit into UP colors.

How would it look (to you) with the SC roadname on the long hood and the round 'seagull' logo on the short hood?

BAR did something like that, for example:

That could work remember some shortlines took pride in their corporate look

Well, it’s kinda blasé, but it’s probably more prototypical.  The plan tonight was to try a gull under the cab window and “SC” on the sub base.  The gull was too big, so I moved the “SC” up.  The blue patch is a piece of Microscale B&M Blue Trimfilm that I found in my decal pile.  It’s the wrong color to match what I intend to use for SC Blue, but there will be no other blue on this Geep to make a direct comparison.

This was mainly an experiment, and I initially planned to not set it with Micro Sol, in case I wanted to remove it.  It grew on me, so I set it.  I’ll do some weathering, and I don’t want the patch to look new.  So, it shouldn’t be a problem that I didn’t weather the locomotive first.  Thoughts?

What about a big bird on the hood?

I like it. Striking yet at the same time understated, if that makes sense.

It's a darn sight better job than what BNSF did: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=104805

To add a little pop to the model, I added a small strip of blue to conceal the BN’s assignment stenciled to the sill near the front corner.  On No. 1700, it was “Hillyard,” as in Hillyard, Washington.  Granted, this was actually missing from the model, but that just meant that I didn’t have to strip it.  I like the subtle detail.

Here’s a close up of the prototype’s sill and the stencil:

The result:
