I'd add the lettering and then cover it with Kudzu.  :P

Well, here it is.  The Seaboard Central trestle is about 90% complete, and it was damn-near an all-nighter to pull this off.  The final step this morning was the flat black paint applied to the I-beams.  It was a huge pain-in-the-butt to mask around the ends of the ties and the irregularly shaped trestle bents to allow paint to get into the recesses without overspray.  But, it's done.  Whew.  I guess if I commit to add the lettering on the I-beams, I'll have to mask it again to spray the Glosscote for decal prep.   :|

This is not really the angle that you're supposed to view the trestle scene, and I'm not sure it will be visible once the trees and a road bridge north out of Aberdeen go in.  But, I like this view:

With the bridge temporarily put back into place, I was able to get a train out of staging and down the hill to check the clearance of the beginnings of the street scene I'm working on in Aberdeen.  This will be a railroad crossing, so I have a lot of styrene to fit between all of those rails at the left side of the picture below.  Nothing is glued down yet, which is why the sidewalk appears to be floating:

@Point353 and @davefoxx sure, both examples you provided are over railroads, but aren't they both also over roads?

I would generally agree with you, @wazzou, but Ed's Law.  Aaaaaaaaand, in the ACL picture above, that dirt road barely qualifies as a road (look it up on Google Maps- Old Trussell Road in Junction City, GA), and I would probably bet money that it was once a siding to an industry at the left, which has been removed.  They never would have built that wide an overpass for that dirt road.

I would have just brush painted the beam with craft store paint.

I thought about it, but I was afraid that it would end up looking like I brush painted it with a mop.

Nah, man, you're careful.  Besides, the beam could use a hint of rust anyway, which would cover any sins.

I'm like Chris (not in terms of skill of course) in that I'm more into grabbing a brush and getting in there than I am about firing up the old airbrush.  For me, laziness is a tremendous motivator.

I don’t have the artistry skills that you guys have.  I really don’t think I could have gotten a smooth coat of paint, not to mention getting it in places that paint doesn’t belong.

The bridge will get rust, but the black is barely dry.  I’m also going to wait until I get the decals before I weather the I-beams.  Then, I’ll decide whether to letter the bridge, and, if so, weather after the lettering is applied.

@Dave V,

Just to show that I'm not procrastinating for no reason, here's my other bridge on which I used Monroe Models washes.  I'm not necessarily finished, and I need to weather the concrete deck.  But, the washes work great!

Those are some good looking bridges.
Looks like your rust streaks down from the bridge feet could run further down the abutment, and of course, the view could be much improved by covering all of it with kudzu!
