Man, you really must be color blind.  That's no where close to the colors on my chart. 🤣

I really am.  I'm also reeeeeally lazy.  I just grabbed the most suitable spray bomb that I had, and, well, there you go.  :D

Last owner made quite a few diy modifications over the years, giving it a flashy paint job was merely a small part in trying to tweak his bug. Sadly he probably should have focused his efforts on the more critical systems before doing so.

I wouldn't sweat it - there were plenty of these that got Earl Scheib specials!  :D

Actually, any shade of green would have made it disappear into the foliage.  The weathered red brings the (non-colorblind) eye right to it.

Thanks!  I agree with you.  Plus, the only spray bomb of green I had was way off from the color chart.  We've all seen red Beetles.

A light touch with a silver sharpie will really bring it home.  The window trims would have been polished aluminum, and they don't rust!

And you'll need a goat in the back seat.

This is a print made by a friend of ours.  We thought it to be suitable decor for our goat circus of a household! :D

I agree. @Ed Kapuscinski pointed that out, too.  But, I'm fairly certain that I'd make a huge mess and butcher that effect, so I hesitate to even try.  No metallic trim > sloppy silver Sharpie.

Dave,

You might have stumbled on to an accurate depiction: I had my 64 Beetle painted by Earl Scheib - they painted everything! (including the tire sidewalls  :D)

I have an Atlas CSX CW40-8 that I bought some time ago.  It was used and, unfortunately, came with a broken horn.  Every chime was broken off, leaving a mere stump where a horn was supposed to be.  I’m no railroad horn expert, but I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what horns were used on CSX’s CW40-8s.  As best as I can tell, a Nathan K5LA is appropriate.  I spent a good bit of time trying to find a good replacement model horn.  For the longest time, I struck out, including the obvious- from the Atlas parts department.  I finally located a Cal-Scale (part no. 190-654) Nathan K5 air horn at Walthers, specifically, a K5HR24.  Close enough for me.  A spritz of Tamiya primer and a brush paint job of Tru-Color TCP-266 CSX Y2K Gray that I had, and I’m satisfied.  Considering that this isn’t from the Tru-Color brush paintable line, the paint went on fine and covered in one coat.

Here’s my dirty, old L&N SD40-2, now patched for the Seaboard System:

Apparently, either a K5LA or a K5H would be appropriate.

Pulled the CSX motive power from the layout this afternoon and reverted the era from 1992 to 1985.  Time for some Seaboard System goodness.

EDIT: Haha!  My Helicon thirty-day license expired, so my photo got the dreaded watermark.  Gonna have to pay for the license.
