Decals are applied to the numberboards on the short hood:

Any idea when the bell would have been installed on top of the short hood?

Probably before the SCL merger, with my luck.  I have a little bit of disappointment with Athearn on this model.  It's one of those models that were advertised as road or road number specific details, but they sure got this wrong.  I moved the horn, and I removed a winterization hatch.  Why the hell would the SAL need a winterization hatch?  Thankfully, it was applied after the model was painted, because the body and fan were finished underneath the hatch.  Since I had to buy SAL green paint for the small plugs to patch where I moved/removed these items, I could easily paint a bell and install it, if I come across one some day.  Might need one for No. 1025, too.  But, it's not at the top of the priority list.

What is at the top of the priority list is the replacement of the motor.  No. 1053 started acting up several weeks ago.  It stalled and wouldn't go, and then once going, it would run slow or surge at times.  It's weird; it seems to run fine when it's cold, but once it warms up, the problems arise.  Further inspection determined that, when stuck, the motor would spin, if I gave the rotor a slight nudge.  I'm thinking there might be a broken wire in there.  A new motor is supposed to be delivered today.  I don't think it's the decoder, because everything else is working fine (lights and sounds) and it gives off a noticeable ozone smell when running.  So, I get to tear this locomotive down again.  Hopefully, it's not cracked gears.  I'll replace the incandescent bulbs with LED lights while I'm in there.

Hmm.  Interesting.  That bell doesn't show up on the top of the short hood in the few pictures of SAL GP9s that exist on RR Pictures Archive.net:

You can also see in this photo of No. 1920, the horn is located where I moved the horn on my model to, which is more rearward on the short hood than where Athearn put it.

Haha!  I like this one of No. 1041: No bell on the short hood, and the decal film shows around the new lettering.

They must've lost their 55 gallon drum of Solvaset.

It lives!  And, now with properly numbered numberboards.  :)

I also had to reprogram certain CVs to re-speed-match this remotored Geep.  Decals are finished, so SAL No. 1900 is now officially SCL No. 1053 on the roster (just like on the prototype).  Still needs clearcoating and weathering.

Nice save, it looks really good!  Hopefully the next project is less dramatic…

Thank you, Frank!  Today, I did a little more painting on the former SAL station and JFRTM:

Back to the former SAL station project.  I finished painting the green this evening.  The touch-ups are, unfortunately, as good as it’s going to get.  Like I said before, it’ll pass the three-foot rule.  The green is not as dark in person- it’s Rustoleum Hunter Green.

Attempts at printing the roof shingle decals failed.  I’m now down to my last sheet of decal paper, so I need to figure out why the printer won’t cooperate.  Stay tuned.

Stepping back to get an overall look at how the station fits into this scene of my model of Aberdeen, North Carolina:

Not the exact track layout, but, considering that my track plan was plagiarized from a MR plan drawn by Gordon Odegard decades ago, I’m not far off the mark:

A model of SBD business car 300, the North Carolina, ought to be parked on that siding.

Don’t I know it!  I’d love to have a model of that car.

I laid down some paint on the north half of the yard in Aberdeen.  This was necessary to start adding basic scenery around the station scene, e.g., ballast and grass.  Rail tops have been cleaned, but I need to hand paint the areas that I masked around the turnouts’ points.

By the way, I’m thinking about naming that small stub siding the “Silver Streak Track.”
