Dave -
I have some of that Tamiya Deck Tan and I would say it's maybe a little too much on the brown side for concrete, perhaps.

A glaze of Buff should get the color you're looking for.

Agreed.  I'm colorblind, but it doesn't look right to me, either.  I'll try to wash something over it, perhaps Buff, as suggested by @dem34, before attempting to respray the sidewalks, because the paint build-up will become obvious.  I have to dig through the paint supplies to see what I've got to work with.

Thanks, guys!

Mm, Baldwin filth!  NS AS-416 No. 1608 completes the fleet that I need for the former original Norfolk Southern Ry. line on my layout that represents the tracks from Aberdeen to Star, North Carolina.

As noted earlier in this thread, I plan to run several eras, to keep things interesting.  This AS-416 covers the 1960s era, a Southern Ry. GP38 covers the post-1974 merger of NS into the SOU, and the Aberdeen, Carolina & Western GP40-2LW covers from 1986 to present (admittedly it's a slight anachronism for the 1980s, but, whatever).

No. 1608 will need to have the Tsunami guts removed and replaced with an ESU LokSound decoder.  The Tsunami sounds okay, but it's running characteristics do not compare to what ESU decoders can do.  Since I cannot tweak the Tsunami on my LokProgrammer, it's just easier to convert to ESU, which matches the rest of my fleet.  It would have been nice to just buy this locomotive without any decoder, but this is quite possibly the last Bowser AS-416 that was available.  I found it at a shop in South Carolina, and it was their last unit in stock.  Ebay searches struck out.  I still need to add the details, such as the end handrails and sunshades, but I did replace the couplers with Sergent Engineering couplers last night.

Can you imagine when railroading looked like this?  This was Aberdeen, North Carolina in the mid-1960s where the NS and the A&R interchanged with the Seaboard Air Line.  Plus, at any time, green and yellow SAL freight units or mint green passenger locomotives could also be tearing through town on the middle track.  :drool:

This is why I will enjoy multiple eras on the layout.

Still jealous that you found 205. I've tried for at least as long as you did.

maybe my time is coming.

@Carolina Northern,

It was sheer luck of being in the right place at the right time.  I got No. 205 after many months of searching.  I got No. 400 only by buying a used shell from an eBay vendor and plopping it onto another mechanism.  So, keep that search on eBay running 24/7.  If I see one, you'll be the first to know.

I received the can of Tamiya “Wooden Deck Tan” today and resprayed the sidewalk.  Still darker than I would prefer (I miss Testor’s Light Aircraft Gray), but it is what it is.  I’ll work on it with some weathering and, hopefully, I can fade it a little.

I like it!  If you have some light gray chalk/pigment, that should do the trick, while avoiding paint buildup.

I think I do, Frank.  I’ll give that a shot first.

eBay saved searches are great for something like this. They'll send you an email when new things match your search terms. Its one email a day max with everything new that matches.

Rustoleum Light Gray Primer is my go-to color for aged asphalt roads, so, if you figure out the color for concrete, please let me know.

Are you planning to also acquire the earlier version of #205, which lacks 'The Road of Personal Service' slogan?
