It's good to have hidden gems, tho.

Hopefully, that will be the Town of Aberdeen scene on the far side of the layout, which is opposite the entry door and not visible as you enter the room.

Dave, I’m liking it but where the poles hit the ground is causing me to ask are you going to do a concrete land retention slope (have no idea what those are called BTW) under the bridge too?

Yes, I have no idea what that's called, either, but there will be a concrete pad from the abutment at the top of the hill down to the pilings.  Just like in the proto photo on the previous page.

Thanks, DKS!  To reduce the complexity of the slope pavings’ connections with the abutments and the pilings, I cut the pilings down and installed a base.  I’ve seen bases under the pilings like this, probably to reinforce the piers and prevent a derailment from taking out the bridge.  It wasn’t fun cutting off the pilings, but I glued a piece of styrene across the pilings at the cut line, which kept the cut straighter and prevented me from breaking the pilings.  One down, one to go.  Then, I can get to work on the slope paving.

That's a way more common occurrence on the West Coast, anyway.
It's an attempted protection from erosion, loose lading, derailments and it's a terrific canvas.

Yes, the piling base is good option and often used from what I have seen in my neck of the woods.  Big plus with this is the option to put form lines on the concrete, weather and graffiti it too.  Could also put a bunch of garbage behind the piling base including a supermarket shopping cart as well.

Thanks!  Here’s the bridge project after tonight’s efforts: pier number two is finished and the slope paving at one end is finished.  Unfortunately, in my impatience to glue that slope paving into place, I forgot to carve the concrete joints into that piece of styrene.  Oh, well.

I’ll hide the bottom of that slope paving in some dirt and grass, so that I don’t have to figure out how to cut around that pier.

Never give up.  I decided to keep at it, and now the slope paving is completed on both ends.  The hills are cut back, so the bridge sits in place at the proper elevation.  Railings next.

Haha!  He ain't stealing nuthin', because my layout looks like crap compared to his.  He's the guy who does ProtoThrottle instructional videos, and, if I remember correctly, he's also a NS engineer.

I'm guessing that turnout is automated...
The scene is really coming together nicely.
If you're like me, when you're on the highway and you come to a bridge like this, you invariably glance left and right to see if there's a headlight approaching below...
Scene reminds me of the overpass on the south side of Southern Pines where the SBD passes under Morganton Road on a bit of a curve.
You'll need to include my brother in law's Mustang upside down in the ditch...

I'm guessing that turnout is automated...

I use manual BullFrog switch machines, so the turnout control is in the fascia.  Examples are visible in this picture of Aly.  Eventually, I'll paint the fascia green, but I still haven't decided what color those pulls are going to be.

Guilty as charged.  I cross over the Northeast Corridor and CSX's Philly Subdivision on the commute to and from work.  Can't help but to always look for a train.

Thank you!  That is real close to the area being modeled and the same rail line.

Can do!  I need to hear this story sometime!  Perhaps over a beer when this whole COVID thing is behind us.

It depends on which Mustang to use.  I believe there are several to choose from...
