I love the progress Dave. Can't believe there was nothing there just a few days ago.

Amen!

Don't forget to add in "home modifications" too... "cut a hole in the steps", "what about that back room?"...

Holy crap, this.  Some people are completely tone deaf when it comes to someone else's space or givens/druthers.

"Using existing space only, single deck...no holes in walls."

"Have you considered punching into the bedroom next door to put a double-helix to a second deck?"

But you could do so much more if you knocked down that wall!

Not everyone wants a bigger layout.

^This.  Oh, so much this.  I know where my limitations are.  Yes, this 6' x 14' layout is larger than the Seaboard Central 2.0, but with everything being bigger, it will take about the same effort to build this layout in HO scale as it did in N scale.  That's about the limit that I'm comfortable with.  Yes, I plan to have the separate On30 layout, but building these layouts separately will make that easier.  I want to get the HO scale layout up and running before I'll focus on the On30 layout.  I still need to figure out a new track plan for that, now that the HO layout has come to fruition.

Oh, I find it interesting that the same guy who wanted @Ed Kapuscinski to bore through the stair riser is the same guy (@wm3798) that we had to talk out of boring a hole into the wall between the house and garage several years ago?

BIG PROBLEM.  Your building inspector is going to hate you for cutting a hole or two between the garage with its associated noxious fumes (e.g., auto exhaust) and the living space.  Not to mention the problems from opening up holes from heated to non-heated areas, but are you trying to kill everyone in the house?

Mike Holmes would not approve.

I can honestly say, "I haven't."  ;)  However, last week, when I set up my daughter's N scale layout under my temporary HO layout, she wanted a "ramp" to connect the two.  So, she might be cool with idea.  :D

It is very interesting watching you and Dave Vollmer create a masterpiece in a space that each of you feels that is what you can devote to a model railroad.  Do not listen to those who want to see a larger and larger layout.  Bigger is not always better.  Go for the better.  Thanks for letting us watch as you build. later, Craig

I know. I was just being a goof. But you should take Jpec's idea seriously.  :D

The next section of joists is installed. One more section and then I can start fitting the lauan plywood and 2" foam.

I finished all of the joists.  The table is 6' x 10' with a 18" x 4' yard extension.  Overall, the table is 6' x 14'.

Not pictured here is the lauan plywood that I have started to install on top of the joists this evening.  Because of family obligations this holiday weekend, I won't be able to work on the layout much after tonight, which is killing me, because I'm sooooooo close to being able to lay the 2" foam sheets on the table and begin track planning.

Looking good though!
