No, I didn't.  Just lucky, I guess.  So, at some point Amtrak dictated that all business or privately-owned cars have to match Amtrak's livery?  What years?  Clearly, that's Amtrak's Phase II stripes on that SCL car.

I forget the details. It changed pretty quickly when enough of the host roads told them to F*** off, I think.

I have a feeling, since that's clearly from the SCL days (pre-1983), and I model 1983-86, that Amtrak's policy ended long before 1983.  But, I would imagine that it's likely that some of those cars weren't repainted immediately.  That's the story I'll go with.  So, Oscar will stay silver.

I was thinking about this last night.  I will try to remove that white "Amtrak" lettering from the red stripe.  If that doesn't work, I can either patch the red, or if that looks bad, I might be able to use my red trim film over the entire red stripe to make the red uniform across the car side.

While I thought about that, I also considered applying a red stripe over each of the blue and red stripes, retaining the white stripes that separate and outline the colors.  That would lose the obvious Amtrak livery and look like a quick fix by a low budget short line.

Thanks,
Dave

Dave, your last idea is how I was thinking I would do it for exactly the same reasons.
For such a short car I would recommend a shorter name for it than Oscar.  Maybe “Osy”? ;)
But, “Oscar” apart from being a nice name, does perhaps also indicate the last part of a previous longer name which sort of fits with a cut down car too :)

The Amtrak paint requirement was a '70s thing.
By the mid-80s, the Seaboard business car fleet was back in the dark/olive green color (with black roof) scheme that was used previously.

If the SC were to also acquire a matching Walthers Piker car, then they could name one car 'Ozzie' and the other car 'Harriet'.

I flirted with the idea of buying a Piker, but I thought that an Oscar was enough.  Less is more.

I think what I'll do for now is to just leave the car silver and perhaps patch the Amtrak stripes along with the addition of the SC lettering, as if the SC never repainted the car after Amtrak's rules were lifted.  Honestly, if I can just get the white Amtrak lettering off without damaging the red stripe, I'll stop there.  I'm not looking forward to trying to decal around all of the recesses around those windows and keeping it off the "glass."  That said, if I find it's easy to take this car apart, then problem solved.

I'm mainly going this route, because I have the materials in the form of decals to do this now.  I don't have any paint to repaint the car into Pullman Green, and an order I placed for other paint supplies a month ago remains unfilled.  I may repaint the car one day, though, because I do like the Pullman Green with the black roof scheme.

Oh, and if anyone were to release even a foobie of this Seaboard System business car, "Georgia," I'd be all over it like fur on a weasel.  That and the Georgia 300 privately-owned car.

I got one side decaled tonight.  The Seaboard Central easily fit, although it isn’t perfect due to the individual letters being a challenge.  I’ll do better on the other side.  I hope.

I tried to remove the white Amtrak lettering in the red stripe only to confirm my worst fear: the red was painted over the white.  In other words, trying to remove the white was only successful in removing the red stripe.  I then tried to lay a full decal over the entire stripe, but the windows caused all sorts of problems.  Oh, and there is no way to disassemble this car.  It’s glued together.  So, I laid down a piece of red trim film only over the small section of red stripe where the Amtrak lettering was.  It’s not a terrible match to my colorblind eye.

I was going through my SAL decals and found a car name, “Gull.”  Perfect!  So, Gull it is, and I gave it a number 4, implying some history on the SC.  The 4 is also much more visible than a 1, because the SCL number “1” looks like an “l.”

I honestly wouldn't have noticed the red decal, if you hadn't pointed it out.

3D model it and I'll print the body for you.

There's a -chance- that I can do it sometime soon -- I'm looking into just printing sides for existing Walthers cars, and in the case of heavyweights I already want to print a balloon roof.  That car would be fairly straightforward.

Thank you for that offer, but I have zero graphic design experience.  That learning curve would be so steep for me.  I don't even know how to use PhotoShop yet, let alone graphic design programs.  Then, there would be the problem of modeling the flush glass.  Oh, this is way above my pay grade.
