nice!!!! thanks for the update.  that tender looks like a good match for that locomotive.  I just got a new 10K printer and I am planning on testing it on an American Hoist & Derrick 2 Drum Hoist that I am modeling up.  should be ready to print it any day now.

10K Printer? I'm intrigued. What model did you get? I havent seen any 10K units pop up.

I have a Sonic Mini 4K. Been having some strange problems with it lately. Like today I just printed about 6 prints of a file, then printed another file. Went back to print another of the first 6 prints and it didn't stick to the build plate. I never even shut the machine off.

Or yesterday. I had a perfect print, next one was stuck to the build plate, but the model tore from the supports and was stuck to the FEP. Clean that off and hit print again and this one came out perfect. All 3 prints are the same file. One good, one bad, one good. This is all at one time without ever shutting the machine off.

So all that along with the fact that the 4K has been running for 2 years now... But the main factor is the 8K has a longer build plate and I can print a whole HOn30 passenger car on it.

Time for an FEP replacement... sounds like too much friction from used FEP surface, or it lost its tight drumhead overtime and it's not peeling well.

Oh sorry, yes you need an 8k!

lol

I tried everything. See one day I had a print and build plate hanging on the drip bracket and pressed the print button. The head came down and hit that breaking the bracket (just resin) the stepper started grinding.

Next time a print failed I:

Replaced the FEP
Re-leveled the build plate.

Prints failed. They would pull from their supports. The raft and supports would be on the build plate the rest on the FEP. These were files that never left the USB stick and printed fine a few days before. So I:
Did the light test.
Took it apart and made sure all the LED were lit, they were.
Checked the power supply, it was 24Volts.

New FEP, new level, prints failed. Thought the Z screw or motor could be bad:
Put the old stepper and lead screw back in. No change (put other screw back in)

I tried to re-support the model with twice as many supports, no good.

Asked someone else what their settings were. Changed to those (just barely different than my settings) and now somehow the print worked.

For a few days till yesterday. Ordered a 8K.

Checked the machine to make sure the Z rail was square, it was. Don't forget I turned my 4K into a jack stand. I beefed up the bottom base with an extra 1/4" aluminum plate. Put a brace on the head. Put a big wrap around brace from the Z rail to the base.

It is much better now, but once I set it about 2 years ago it was fine, I never changed a thing. So now when I print 10 of the same print over and over and 1 out of 10 fails it can't be my settings. A new screen is $100, who knows what a mother costs. Plus I have a few very tiny burnt out pixels.

But the kicker was a new passenger car I drew up won't fit on the 4K.  :P

Haha!  You’ll soon have as many 3D printers lying around as you do layouts. 😜

Something has to be said for that weird feeling of knowing a Layout you've built is circulating in the wild somewhere.

I thought I'd feel that way about my ex, but the feeling dissipated.   :D
