Another one. This loco has been bouncing around forever. I first saw it many years ago in a Baldwin catalog. It is a real 30" gauge loco used at a plantation in Hawaii.

And this is Kennebec Central #1. There are very few photos of this loco and it is an odd ball because most of the Maine 2' locos were made by Portland Or Hinkley, this one was made by Baldwin.





Real loco was outside framed, but the wheelbase and driver size are correct. About 27 years ago I had a Kennebec Central HOn30 layout in the bedroom of my parents house...

Trying to get my "water wheel" badge.



I went out of my way to make the wheel and it's axle removable to do scenery and then realized the mill race would sandwich it in place.

Amazing what color does.


This is just a base wash on the building. I will paint it a cream white color.

I cut the first few sections of the mill race off so they will move out of the way to get the wheel out while I do scenery. Also funny how I've had that building fitted to the ground for months, but once I painted it had trouble getting it to seat down.

Got a little further.




Dug out my slate shingles to do the roof. Almost out so I go to order more. "sorry that color is no longer available"  So ordered all new. Only real difference between slate and asphalt is the color so I'll just color them.

Another one 

This is a Mattole Lumber Co. 0-4-2. The real thing hauled tan bark less than 2 miles out to a pier to transfer to boats. A guy found it half buried with the rails still under it and did a rebuild. Later he donated it to a museum.

I built my mother a dollhouse approximately twenty-five years ago, because she said she never had one when she was little.  She since has given it to my daughter.  When I shingled that roof, I used individual cedar shakes and copper sheet for flashing.  I even weaved the shingles for the ridge cap.  That shingling job took a while, so I can appreciate that tar paper roof on your model.
