14 tons like the On30 Bachmann model, but a lot more correct than the Bachmann model.



It is a rare (seriously) brass model from around 1994

Just to share....I know of a  very small one that is semi local to me, though it is standard gauge..

Looks great! Do you do much static flock if any on your layouts, or primarily stick with the ground foam?

I just bought a used static grass machine on ebay so static grass will start soon.

By the way, I was serious when I said your narrow gauge layouts got me hooked to narrow gauge. After an extensive N scale collection of NYC stuff, including brass, now I took advantage of Trainworld's specials on some of Bachmann's On30 stuff. I know it's not 100% proto for common narrow gauge in the US, but I'll make up my own railroad. Got myself the 0-4-0 Porter, 0-4-2 Porter, 4-4-0, and 2-6-6-2 Each one was $59-99 each on their blowout sale. Over $1k worth of engines for a few hundred. Now to start scratch building some rolling stock (and finish my N scale layout!)

I tried On30, but it is too much trouble converting Bachmann On30 equipment into On30 equipment. Here is my On30 14T Heisler:


The frame needed milled down because Bachmann gave it a whole bunch more than it should of had. Plus all the various details that were missing like a brake cylinder and sand boxes.

That's a cool idea to have the layout fold up. Maybe I do have room right now for an On30 layout after all...

Back to the HOn30. This is why I hate scenery. Tip the layout up on various props to get the right angle and sprinkle on scenery material. Wet and glue. Set the layout back down and put a fan on it to speed up the drying. Come back next day to tip the layout the "other" way and repeat. Next day touch up small areas that didn't get covered. A week later and now you have 9 square inches of a scenery base down.  Today's work:



Soaking wet with the fan on it so I can do more sooner    Plastic bag over the building so I can "dirt in" the foundation and still be able to remove the building.

None of this includes static grass and brush/trees
