Close call!  :o

I finally installed this little A-frame bridge at one end of the layout. When I built it clearance was established using a small 0-4-0 Porter, but I also plan to run my 14T Heisler. There is about a rail head sized gap, but it clears  :D

BTW none of this existed before 5/27/17. I drew the trackplan full size on paper, then flipped it over and made some changes. I started building the engine house and once that was done I did the group of buildings on the dock. The little shed is a resin casting, but everything else is scratch built. On 5/31/17 I bought the wood to build the layout frame. Once that was done I hand laid all the turnouts. I've been on vacation all week  :D

The engine house is based off the one used at the Eureka Mill along the V&T.

Just a heads up. I recently bought some strip wood from Northeast Scale Models, about $60 worth to do the deck of the dock area. Later I found a bundle assortment deal on ebay.

Good stuff for any scratch builders out there. I think the guy just has a micro table saw. Wonder if he could make a custom bundle in the future, hmmm.

One more for the road.


I started the jib crane. I planned to have this further to the right with the track running through the support. Had it all worked out so a train would clear. Then out of nowhere I noticed the boom would swing very close to the big yellow building :facepalm:  So I added the little bump out to the wharf. The jib crane is from a Walthers cornerstone midstate marble products:

The staff and boom are just about cut in half and just about every part is modified some way to make it look smaller. The control shed is scratchbuilt.

As always, friggin' incredible.  But, one suggestion: can I talk you into a piece of cardboard or styrene shoved up inside the big yellow building to hide the fact that there are no interior walls?  You know, so we can't see all the way through the structure.

Sure maybe I'll even put glass in the windows  :P  Since that photo I raised the yellow building up 1/16" so locos would clear under the notch. I did it in a way that the building sorta snaps into the dock to hold it.

Under what scenario would the locomotive need to go that far into the siding and under the structure?  It seems to me that only rolling stock would be pushed back that far.

Well in real life that track extended a little further onto a dock/trestle thing where other suppies could be loaded/unloaded.

I love the tracks in the dock, really cool. And I would love to see a better pic of that Heisler! :o
