Yes, they're quartered/90° apart just like steam locomotives.  I have photos of both sides of the same loco (Davenport coincidentally) and they're 90° apart side to side.

Doesn't look like much, but this is the chassis for my railbus. There are 2 1/16" tungsten rods glued into slots of the 3D printed chassis. All they do is keep the frame straight since there will be a shaft running through it. Used capillary tubing where the lay shaft goes through the resin as a bearing.


And this is the motor sitting there. It is from a Bachmann HOn30 Rusty (Thomas).






It only ends up being a 43:1 gear ratio so if it runs too fast I will have to add another stage of spur gears. Plenty of room for that.

Clever drive design for the rail bus...the new small motors make something like this possible. Nice work Chris!
