I take it there are no available mechanisms with correct wheel size. A shame for such a nifty loco,

For the tender I would want all wheel pick-up so at least the tender frame would be better 3D printed. I bought a Ken Kidder 2-6-0 with plans to convert it to HOn30, but it was just too big.

The Ken Kidder is actually a model of the JGR 7100 class built by Porter and is actually 1/80. Ken Kidder imported them from Katsumi who made them for the Japanese market. I'd like to pick one up one day but they still seem to be popular.

You'd think for this locomotive I could just take an HO scale AHM Bowker and narrow the wheels:
https://ho-scaletrains.com/ahm-bowker-2-4-0/
But as I found when I opened the box it is way oversize. And right after than searched and found that yes they made it oversized for that huge motor in the cab.

So do you guys think my locomotive looks funny?

I can always work on another 0-4-2 using the same chassis. I found a bunch of stuff on logging railroads in Michigan. It would look like this, but with an enclosed cab:

A little fugly looking I think, but at least I could make it to scale.

I think your version looks correct size wise, it would be ineresting to narrow the wheels on the 2-4-0 and see how that frame with your 3d printed body fits together, might be able to get closer to the prototype when it comes to the proportions of the wheels

Finding plans for small locomotive is pretty much impossible so I took time to measure and draw up my buddies Brookville. It is a 5ton BFA model that was originally built as 36" gauge. My buddy had the wheels pushed in on the axles and it is now 24" gauge. It is small in real life so the model is small as well. There is only a Ford V8 under the hood.

It once belonged to Strasburg, but they had no plans for it. Hours after it was unloaded the thing was already tore down to the bare frame. And now it is up and running again. I believe Brookville was once a Ford dealer and some of their first locomotives were Ford trucks with rail wheels put on.

Any chance you could print that in On30?

That's cool, Chris!  On another note, have you been cleaning the rails with your angle grinder again?

If only we had a mole inside Brookville...

Brookville's building flooded long ago. So if there were any plans or records they are gone.

So, I know a guy...  8)

Chris's intel is correct, a long-time employee who worked here when the flood occurred told me that he has never seen any digitized drawings of these old lokies.

Chris, if you'd be willing to print a few of those, you could sell a few of those here. Please PM me if interested...

Chassis for the Brookville is in the mail.

So I sort of gave up on a Bowker style locomotive I started earlier. The large spaced out drivers just don't match anything:
http://www.virginiaandtruckee.com/locomotive/no21.htm

But... I've had this photo saved forever:

And the other day on Facebook this popped up:

It has much smaller drivers and just looks more HOn30ish. I have drivers for it and will try to 3D print a chassis for the loco. The tender is half done to get me rolling.

Getting feet wet.

Has Kato wheels and behind those journals are Kato axle end pick-up cups.

Very impressive; is there anything you can’t make? The paint work is going to be a challenge…

So got the Brookville running. It has this power chassis from Toma Model Works:

And it is a nice press fit:

And the Pioneer 2-4-0 shown above. Got the first try of a locomotive frame printed.
