My ESU LokSound Full Throttle Feature Explanation (VERY LONG POST!)

The one thing I found which helps the brake sound is changing the sound speed on it!  I've actually set a pretty wide range for sound on/off threshold and playback speed

Sound On threshold (CV64)= 59, Sound Off (CV65) threshold 1
Min sound playback (CV16.1.461)= 119, Max Sound Playback (CV16.1.462)= 153

And I cranked up the volume.  At least now it sounds like a brake squeal again

Will have to give some of those settings a try, thanks! What I really liked about the older brake sound versus newer is how it changed as the loco came to a stop. The older one kind of did a cool "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeechwa" sound (if that even describes it correctly), where the new one just seems to sort of make a continuous and unchanging, rubbing sound....at least on the one FT file I have (which still sounds good). Perhaps it's possible that the earlier brake sound wasn't as prototypically accurate as the newer one is, as I can't actually say I ever heard a loco make that noise when it came to a stop or not, but it sure sounds cool in my SD9 and S2!

The brake sound is in my opinion much more 'boring' compared to the non FT sounds. However, that was not the main reason for not using the FT features.

Yes but the firmware has to be updated by a lok programmer

Ok, thanks! I do have a LokProgrammer, but I'm not sure what firmware update file(s) are needed. Didn't see anything obvious at the ESU site.

Just select “update decoder firmware” from the tools menu, with the latest version of LokProgrammer.

OK, my new LokPilot V4 Micro arrived today and I already installed in an N scale Lifelike GP60. Once I learned how to set up and activate "virtual sound" and "drive-hold", it runs perfectly with my units that have LokSound Select Micros and Select Direct Micros in them. I'm not sure if I needed to update the firmware in it or not, but I did anyway. Anyway, I'm very pleased with the outcome! Nice to know there's a non-sound decoder that is compatible with the "FT/drive-hold" features of the latest LokSounds.
