I don't think you're giving the kit enough credit for what's there.

Jason

Yes, I think for a street price of ~$48 or so the kit is a pretty good deal.  Sure, it would be easy to build with styrene but that would cost probably $20 and not have any of the detail parts.

Hmm... I paint all my
kits purple...

Miss Dee might have been joking (I can't tell from her expression), but I actually have a plastic Rico Station kit that IS painted purple.  In its box, never assembled.

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

Sorry, the needle on my sympathy meter never twitched and I made sure it had new batteries.

As an O scale (narrow gauge) modeler, I could easily point on the amount of stuff in N scale that will likely never be made in O. And mine is a scale that pretty much pre-dates most other scales.
And as for HO, well, there’s pretty much EVERYTHING in that scale if it easiest at all. The day I hear anyone in HO whining about something not being made in that scale, that’s the day I hope my wife is nearby me to talk me down from wanting to commit justifiable violence!

Way back when, in the early 1980's, one of the main reasons I decided to go with N-scale rather than HO was the necessity of having to scratchbuild/kitbash most of the structures I wanted to incorporate into my Ntrak modules, and many of the engines and rolling stock I wanted to run.

Lady Luck has smiled on me in the last few years with a plethora of N-scale Union Pacific engines and rolling stock that exactly fit my layout's locale and era.

However, even Walthers lovely 130' turntable needs kitbashing to properly represent the turntable in Ogden in the 1950's, and after buying 15 stalls of the Walthers "Modern" roundhouse, I've decided it's not close enough to the Ogden roundhouse to work for my Ogden LDE.

Which means, once again...I will have to continue scratch building most of the structures on my layout...which is a good thing IMO.

On the other hand, I find it hard to believe that cutting molds for N-scale versions of HO models that Walthers produces would not be economically advantageous for them, rather than alienating the N-scale market.

Cheerio!

Lol, I got a kick out of that, because everything is relative. Thank you!
All this moaning and whining, we've never had it so good :D
And we'lll never have it as good as our HO friends. So we could all switch scales, but then we'd be stuck in Horribly Oversized... thanks but no thanks, I'll roll my own if Walthers doesn't cooperate, too bad for them :P

Blank out some of the loading dock doors and that would make a nice Google or Equinix data center.....

I've tried three times, at two dealers, to get one of their original-style DQs.  No luck.  No wonder N scale doesn't sell, if dealers can't get what they DO make.

Remember when their slogan was "Your dealer can get it from Walthers"?

Forgot 85' flatcars I think the TW N scale version is superior to HOs and I think we are the only scale to have both body styles.

Strange, Wally shows it in stock:  https://www.walthers.com/products/vintage-dairy-queen-kit

And MBK has 60 of 'em in stock at the moment.

Walthers would sell more kits if it would reasonably price them. Seriously, $60 for a small plastic box on 8 sprues? Probably all of $3 in plastic there and $1.00 tops in packaging.

If it would have been done by MT and called "limited", the entire run would have been sold out by now. For double of the price.

Actually, Walthers is quite aware that the Cornerstone buildings do well in N.  That's not to say they're producing massive quantities of them though.

One of the few things that's never changed about this hobby, going to the local hobby shop, placing an order, checking a few weeks later to be told that the LHS has yet to meet the minimum order for Walthers, then you wait for that, then wait for the Walthers to show up. There should be zero reason why people stopped doing that for the most part once other mail order places made it far easier (and often, cheaper) to get what you need, much faster.

One could get all Dr Heiter and buy a bunch of them to join together to make a large DQ and therefore a probable reason to be rail-served.
