In 1975, I was on Diego Garcia for a year. We would get resupply ships in every month or so. They brought Olympia Beer -- it sold out very fast, since it had no preservatives.  $4 per case.  But we had an overabundance of Bud, since it did :( ..  $3 per case.   but the best beer we had was San Miguel, imported on Navy P3s by the crews from Cubi Point in the PI ... they ran a hootch right off the flight line, and sold the beer cold for $10 per case .. worth every penny

The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.

Oly was good until Miller bought them out and moved the brewing of it to Irwindale

Oh leave it the TRE folks to go from trains straight to beer.
And I was really hoping for a discussion on making that little critter I N scale...

Or perhaps that is Eds Law as well...  :D

Oh and to continue the beer talk, I'm to young to have seen that brand :p

It isn't brewed there any more is it? Bought out by some other brew conglomerate and brewed elsewhere if I remember correctly.

Even worse.  First Miller bought the brewery and Heilemans bought the brand and then Pabst bought Heilemans.   But when SAB bought Miller they closed the brewery and sold it with a contract the effectively means that no one can ever brew beer there again.       I think that Pabst, who no longer are in the brewing business at all, now has "Olympia" brewed somewhere in California.

If you want good beer with Olympia water, there's a good microbrewery called Fish Brewing  (http://www.fishbrewing.com/).  I don't think there's real fish in the beer....

a few years back, I talked to the Pabst heir...they now rent brewery space and make runs of "orphaned" beers like Olympia, at the time, they had about 30 different brews that they made in Irwindale, CA....
