I dunno.  2-axle vs. 3-axle.  Not exactly a strong case.

Is the model not based on some type of prototype?

Hmm... what is Ed's Law...?
Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.

The running theme here is Eds Law = There is a Prototype for everything.

As for that little beastie if one could find a HTC truck in G scale, and a spartan cab it could easily be replicated...
damnit now you got me going on how I would do it...

Lol right? I have an idea on how to do that as well... small coreless motor, and a htc truck with an offset gear tower like the Mid Production SD40-2s truck. Or is there another HTC truck that would work?

I know you have an idea on how you would do it.

I haven't really given any serious thought, but your idea has merit. The Kato trucks with the integrated worm might be a good choice. A good thing about those is that the gears in that truck will mesh properly with the worm, so you might be able to lower the height of the mechanism (to maximize space for the motor and for all the weight you can pack into the model.

But there is also a problem with small coreless motors - they run very fast. So the loco will be a rocket unless maybe an extra gear reduction is worked into the mechanism.

Apparently these are built by Curry Rail Services in Hollidaysburg Pa. under a manufacturing agreement with Tractive Power Corporation North Vancouver BC.
