Awesome job Ed !  I agree with Dave, excellent idea for the box !  Are you taking on jobs ?  I'd like a couple done for my Gettysburg engines

I've discovered that Neolube is just ideal for that as a wash, because you can let it dry and then wipe it off the surface so that the 'blue' still shows on the grille with the black way down inside.   

I have used a diluted (50/50) mix of india ink and water to do the same thing.  Place grill on a flat plain and float the mix over it. Let the water evaporate and the ink remains leaving and grill that looks pretty good.  Not dark enough? Do it again.

Lookin' good.  I'd recommend lightly sanding the stacks as you can still tell it was brush painted.  I guess its shininess brings it out.   I've found that a mix of light grey and silver with maybe a drop of brown looks good for things like stacks and galvanized roofs.

I agree. They might get some more attention. But I'll say this, the real ones were NASTY looking. I've been using Polyscale "Flat aluminum" so far.

For now. I might go 905 at some point if they really annoy me. I actually like the knuckle size, but they DO stick out quite a bit.

Does the foam really need to be custom cut?...Couldn't you just get a sheet of the foam(but where?) and cut it with an X-acto?..I modify my foam inserts to avoid breaking off added details, and it cuts super easy..
