I amuses me that that's the biggest problem in my eyes with the thing, and it's taken until now for someone to mention it! lol.

Well, to be honest I didn't really notice until Josh posted the mega-macro shots of the cab.
I edited my last post with a question I like you to answer.

Did you wash the shell before you painted it Ed? 
I was sort of "Josh"ing about the lint brush, but it does look like there is some fine hairs or lint under the paint.  Another thing I would have done is to spray it with primer first as it look so like there is some underlying unstripped paint particularly on the cab corners.  That could be paint buildup from the brush though too where the brush goes off the edge.

I agree that for hand brushing, it's really good. I even said those words aloud to the Ed.

Ed probably could have airbrushed 15 models in the time he spent brush painting that. But it looks good!

Yeah... I didn't even know that was possible until those photos. I wonder how much of that engine is from other scraped units.

I took this pic, and it shows how it's done, although this is a Blomberg truck, I imagine they go together about the same..If you have the crane it's about a 2 hour job.

No, but seriously, I actually have loved this thread. Partly because it feeds my model railroad ego to have so many people talking about my work, but also because it's given me a lot to think about and focus on. For example, I know I need to clean up the paint on the cab a bit, and I can now say I made a conscious decision about the louvers as opposed to simply not knowing.


Also, answering other questions...

Washed it? Yes, I gave it a pretty good bath, but I see what you're saying. I may try to address the most egregious offenses.

And thanks for the complements (I think) about the quality of the brush painting. I've been doing it for years, and have gotten my technique pretty solidly down by now.

Airbrushing is not always the panacea...  I have a nice internal mix dual-action but it still can't overcome my lack of skill.

Poly Scale. I've been using it for years. It's the reason I was so sad when it went away. I've been hoarding my Conrail colors.

Buy a big package of White plastic spoons and you'd be surprised how with some practice, you can make improvements figuring out how far away to hold the brush, proper air pressure and viscosity of paint/thinner.
