Some stuff from the Rocky Mountain Toy Train Show.

After a Pinewood Derby race and a basketball game, I was able to get up to Denver for the last 2 hours of the RMTTS.  The spring show is the best and usually has some manufacturers.

Exactrail - The first thing I had to do was go to Exactrail and find out what happened to the N scale freight car they said could be out last year.  I guess that car has hit some bumps and a different car has taken front position.  I'm guessing this car is more modern from what they were saying.  Again, they said this year.  I told them N scale needed a 40' steel meat reefer or a 50's era 8,000 and 10,000 welded tank car with and without platforms.

Micro-Trains - I talked with them about the True Scale Coupler and told them how the hobby shops I was going into had no idea about them.  He (Eric) said they were selling well so I'm no longer worried about their future and can press on with my projects.  I said they're going to need to do an off-set or underslung shank at some point for flat cars and such.

Athearn - Asked about Tri-Level racks and they immediately nodded yes.  They had some Coalporters on display and I asked if they had plans to dump the extended couplers on them and was told they are getting rid of all truck mounted couplers.  They also had three trucks on display, 100t, 70t and 50t.  They looked really nice.  They also had the SD70 on display.



Kato - Asked about the delivery of Olympian Hiawatha since it's not listed and was told September.



I also asked about different versions of the FP7 and he didn't know, but did talk about a future run of the OH in the Armor Yellow.

Intermountain - IM had the SD40-2 featured with a ton of shells.



And on the topic of Flexi-coil trucks, it's not dead yet.  But some things would have to fall into place regarding future projects.  I also said they should do the 1958 2-bay hoppers in N since they do them in HO and Kato isn't going to move any more on them and never did an open side version.



Rapido - Asked about parts and took pictures of the PV gondola.



That's about all I had time for.  The Trainworx the show listed on the flyer wasn't the one that was there.  I was pissed about that, but otherwise a good show.

I didn't see any fireworks go off, but they agreed that it's a model that could be done.

Did you happen to inquire as to whether Kato had any plans to produce such a set?

Didn't think to ask.  I've sort of accepted the set as-is and the time frame it represents.

I did request an separate Amtrak painted "Pacific" series UP sleeper.

Easy mix-up, I think. Show organizers were grasping for graphic content for the flyer, found "a Trainworx" online and ran with it. This happened a couple of times to our graphics staff when I was involved in phonebook publishing.

Irritating for sure, however. Did you have time to point it out to the show office? Risk there is unless they know about the distinction, the flyer artwork might be carried over to the next show. Or, maybe, send the flyer to Pat at Trainworx and let him steer the show folks in the right direction.

Yummy, The Soo and Milwaukee schemes are way too modern for me, but I will have to pick a couple up to support the cause and hopefully they see fit to produce the earlier versions...

I am usually repainting Z scale cars and locos to match my N and HO stuff for my Grande Valley Railway.With the new Athearn SD70 Spartan cabs I will get to do just the opposite.
