There is a small corner of my layout that gets the sun through the window every morning, low in the skies this time of year. It backlights the mainline just below Devore, with the rails glistening in the sun. I took this shot this morning, of the early El Cap gliding along the left hand main toward Summit...this is what a 52" curve looks like in N scale...

Now that I've completed fascia installation/painting (except for the small section at Monolith where I haven't decided quite what I'm going to do yet), backdrop seam finishing/painting, and lower-level LED lighting, I'm comfortable adding all three things to the list of reasons I'll never build another layout. Whatever person started the rumor that model railroading is "fun" obviously delegated these tasks out to someone else. :ashat:

That said, I'm happy with the way it all turned out.

Great work, Chris. I like it.

I have a buddy who counters the "fun" thing with, "No, model railroading is a continuing series of frustrations punctuated by moments of mild satisfaction." :D

Been working on this scene for a few months now. Found most of the detail parts at Monroe show for it.

Natural sunlight, Santa Fe warbonnets, and a 52" curve are all elements of a great shot.   Well done!

Looking great tho!   But wait until you get to ballast all that track ;)  (how many feet..?)

What LEDs did you use?

Very nice! How are you doing the stripe? It looks like paint, or very good decal work

This detail has consistently been the resistance point in my taking on this scheme, and I have a pile of stuff on the bench waiting for the painting roundtuit.

These are a simple renumbering I'm doing for someone. In the past though I've used decals for the stripe.

Test fitting 3D-printed rock sheds and tunnel portals.  Very happy with this solution to my structures.

Excellent work Scott.  It certainly captures the essence of that portion of the canyon!  Looking forward to seeing this area completed.

Cheers,

great stuff this week! :D

I've been working on this factory-decorated Atlas N scale SP GP9 and added SP light packages to both ends as well as BLMA 15" drop grabs. I also finished installing a LokSound Select Micro decoder in it today with the EMD 16cyl 567BC (FT) sound file, which sounds great. The unit has functioning headlight and gyralight effects on both ends....

Went to the Rocky Mountain Toy Train Show and got to visit with Mark W and his dad and their wonderful Freemo-N layout.  I visited with a few manufactures and made a report here:

Mark put evil thoughts in my head about making a couple Freemo-N modules to connect with them when they are in the area doing a show.

Great job on upgrading a factory painted loco! I tried that once and decided it was easier just to strip it and repaint after the mess I made removing grabs and such.

So you have a video of the lighting effects you can share?
