CLP11 was built in 1971 for the Commonwealth Railways by Clyde Engineering (as CL14), and rebuilt for then owner Australian National (AN) in 1993 by Morrison Knudsen Australia.
As of early 2017 it has been in long term storage for approx 4 years.

Wes- would I be correct that "CLP" would indicate passenger equipped (steam generator, etc) while CLF would be a freight loco?  Or do those letters mean something different down under?  Handsome engines in any case- wish Amtrak had done something more along that line in its early days.

Correct in that the CLPs were for passenger service. This was a development from rebuilding in 1993 when they were equipped with a separate head end power generator. 10 were rebuilt with HEP and given the P suffix and the seven without given the F suffix.  Bit of a fizzer really with the CLPs seeing less than four years on passenger workings. I'll upload a pic of one of those workings next week.

The CL's look like a blend of Baldwin Baby Hueys, Krauss-Maffei, and GM's F's.

Where are the horns?

Wes the first passenger car looks like an RDC as the front is painted , is it possible ?

Me too was looking for the big set of horns on the hood !

I wasn't around when the airhorns were tested, but they were probably audible in the next county...

The 2 sets of air horns are independent from each other. One set high volume, one set low volume.

The horns are under the cow catcher near the coupler as in this pic from Justin Cheary (used with permission). Justin (who knows about these things) tells me that the CLPs/CLFs have a mixture of Leslie S5T and RS5T fitted.

The passenger car was a locally built RDC in a previous life (not sure if it was a power car or a trailer), but was later converted for crew relay working by GWA.
