Really good news for us Conrail guys! (Attachment Link) (Attachment Link)
For the Conrail and Penn Central modeler, the late end version is good for classes H54, H54A and H54B (built for PC by Pullman Standard in 1971). The early end version is good for class 138H (Built for NYC by Pullman Standard in 1967). The H54 was the most common covered hopper in Conrail's very diverse fleet. They lasted all the way until the split. The H54A and H54B only lasted until 1981. I believe they were leased for 10 years (being built in 1971), and Stanley Crane did not renew the lease. Many ended up on the BN I believe. The large logo Conrail scheme was applied by Hollidaysburg for several months at the beginning of Conrail's life. The only class I have ever seen this paint scheme on is the H54. I don't know if IM has photographic evidence of that scheme on a 138H, but I have never seen it. Conrail also painted out most of the Penn Central H54's in the early 80's that had not received Conrail markings prior to that. Gene Fusco produced this car for Railyard Models, and he went to IM I believe. Maybe he had something to do with this release. I am pleasantly surprised to see them in N scale. This is yet another car that I never thought would be produced in N scale. Thank you Intermountain. Jeff
