Sounds like the new boxcars may look something like this:

That depends on the size of the "wider door" (9' or 10'?) and the types of doors that are offered.

One other difference between the current MTL cars and a later production PS-1 built in the 1960's that hasn't been mentioned yet, but is visible in the photo you provided is the addition of the gussets on the lower corners of the door opening.

These will be in addition to the existing cars...we will be circling back around at some point to upgrade the roof walks...ends will be modified for the photo etched brake stands etc...On all the cars we refined what details we could...ride height on them are pretty much within a few inches of of proto but we will be dropping them down a little bit and that will apply to both roof walk and non roof walk cars.

Joe

Lowered with existing underframes (e.g. new trucks with lower bolster arms) or new underframes that could use the existing trucks?

...this will be a NYC prototype with new 4 wheel trucks,...

Ya'll need to release the baggage car trucks so those who are trying to model a specific car will have them available.  Been quite some time since the car's release and am rather surprised that it isn't already available... Please, please, please release the 242 trucks... for some roads they are a must!!!

Okay, I'll just beg.  Pretty please, put the door track on the sill where it belongs and lower the car side height.  :)  I'll mention that the door height won't change so it wouldn't affect that tooling.

And while I'm here, if you're going to body mount, can you fill in the notch on the car ends that are there to clear the truck mounted coupler?

I'm definitely excited about maybe getting a 10' plug door even if I have to off-set them myself.

Re: 242 trucks from baggage cars- I've been trying to make do by swapping out trucks on the (non Erie painted) baggage cars to free up a few pair, but I am another potential customer.

Actually, the pending release of the single window coach brings up another issue, which is:  For the last decade, anytime N scale passenger  modelers needed something to complain about, we could fall back on "there is no single window coach." Now, we all no doubt have particular cars we would like to see produced (I would love to see ATSF heavyweights, or a Kato quality Big Dome, for instance).  But I am thinking more along the lines of a class of cars, as opposed to a particular single prototype. So, I hereby nominate the baggage coach combine as the best thing for us to complain about in the future.  We can, of course, further complicate things by demanding both single window and paired window combines.

Well, I'm a bit disappointed that there will be no additional HW Pullmans... Are there no plans to do more?

Looking forward to the improved PS-1s  8) I just hope the vertical compression is addressed,  but I'm liking this. I would like to see the 60' hy cubes improved too they suffer from compression the car needs stretched downward to make the carbody the right height as the roof sits at the right height above the top of the rail as is.

From the description, it seems more accurate to describe these as later production PS-1's (with some general improvements) rather than improved versions of their current PS-1's.

Yep, we are doing lower ladders on the sides and ends and new brake locations, no roof walks and on the single sliding door the first option will be with a wider door.  We will also be adding photo etched brake platforms, lower the car a bit and have body mount couplers on all three.  The cars modified are the single door 50', double door 50 PS and the single plug door, all smooth sides.

Double sliding door or double plug door?

Off the top of my head, I can't think of any 50' PS-1's with double sliding doors that were built with the low handbrakes.

N&W did have some 50' PS-1's with a pair of plug doors and low handbrakes:

Looking forward to the single window coach! I'll need at least a 10 pack of undecs to start out.  8) Unless L&N, Southern, GM&O, and ACL paint can be supplied, too. Roof variations for the other cars are much appreciated, as well. Some full length Harriman coaches, diners and combines would be nice someday.

Yep, that one.  Works as a baggage coach, and stayed on into the 60s rebuilt as a baggage dorm (with the same windows).

Will this be new tooling with proper prototypical proportions, or simply a rework of the current model?
