After I saw your message I reassigned the photo to the shared album and re-copied and re-posted the link.   I THOUGHT I had done that prior to the initial post as well.   Odd.  Thanks for letting me know when it doesn't appear.  I always see the photos now, whether or not I'm logged into google  or not.

I'm giving Flickr a try.  How do you post a link to a Flickr photo?  I've tried all the usual methods but cannot get a photo to show when I preview.  I assume it  won't show if I post either.

If you're on desktop, click on a photo, when it comes up, over in lower right corner will be curved arrow pointing right, that is share.  Click on that, and click on BBCode, select image size from drop down , copy and paste the url where you want to share it to and hit post.

The new section is installed to the left of the existing Litchfield section and the lights turned on.  This is the view you would see as you enter the layout room.



Looking around the corner toward the enginehouse.  The Black River section is at the end.



The yardmasters view of Brittain.  No one should complain about there not being enough light.



And the view up the main and yard lead.  The Black River section is deeper then standard obviously.  It is where it should go in the plan.  I'll have to think on what to do about changing it.  Or maybe just let it be as there is no switching in this area.  Working on scenery may be a bit of a problem though.

Played around in the yard for about 30 min. before dinner.  Sorted cars by Western roads, Wheeling transfers, Eastern roads and locals.  The 8" window did not pose a problem.  However, I can see how scenery and maintenance might be a challenge.


The first westward train departs Brittain for Spencer with NKP MTs and connecting road loads.  It should take Oh, about a year or so, to make it to Spencer.

Nice work!  Even setting a layout at eye height can be a pain for scenery and such, but in the end it looks better.

The tracks at the east end of Brittain are in place and feeder wires attached.  France Stone is served by the curved track to the back corner.  Ashland Chemicals will be at the front to the right.  France is located per the prototype.  Ashland should be to the left of France but yard track length would have been clipped at that location.  I needed a view block to cover the hole-in-the-wall anyway, so it works out.

The deep Black River section did not pass the ops test.  It hung too low into the engine house scene, to the point where the engine house might as well not have been there.  With no small amount of trepidation I taped off the finished part of the module with a plastic sheet, marked the cut line, removed screws and nails in the saw blade path, secured the lighting and wiring, clamped the section to my trusty workmate, closed my eyes, held my breath and let the circular saw rip.  Exhale.  It worked out OK.  Very little damage and it fits in with the other sections perfectly.


Here's a base level view.  Compare with the photos with the same orientation earlier in the thread.  I'm happy.

One of our local operating crew came over on Friday afternoon to give Brittain Yard a test drive.  It's always interesting to see how others interact with your creation.  I wanted to take the switch control mechanisms off the layout and put it on the front fascia to minimize reach ins.  To help guide the yard crew to the correct switch operator I lined the knobs into rows:  Top - Switches in the yard body, Middle - Yard ladder, Bottom - Main bypassing the yard.  Very logical I thought.  My tester said he went by location irregardless of row, pulling the knobs by trial and error.  Oh well.  There aren't that many knobs and in no time he was picking the right knob every time. 

Overall the session was a success.  No derailments due to poor track work.  A couple because of balky couplers.  The 8" access window was not a problem.  Working from a desk chair was a plus but there are some ergonomic issues I'll have to consider.  Today I finished laying the yard tracks.  So far so good.

Good progress made at Brittain Yard this week.  Around the curve, from outside to inside:  Caboose track, Spur 4, engine house lead and engine service track were all added.  The track is now painted and all the switch mechanisms are in place and functioning.  The switch mechanisms for the track additions were installed after this photo was taken.
