On the industrial side of my door layout I had this spot planned out for a culvert.Turned into this. The small pump house building is cut from Middlesex Mfg. walls. And then I added some pipes on the side for interest.Question: Should I keep the pipes or scrap?
Took a short break from the Conrail OCS to work on my first steam kit bash.Working on a proof of concept for a Boston and Maine R1a 4-8-2:The shell is a cut down Bachmann Northern. I have several older shells to experiment on. Once I have a kit-bash that works, I'll move on to their better detailed current shell.Photo makes the model much larger than it is compared to the drawing. The model is only about 12" off. There will be some issues - smoke stack is a bit off, but that can't be helped. Lots of work needs to be done on the lower part of the model. Chassis (a Bachmann J with a FVM Hiawatha Commonwealth delta truck) will need extensive milling - something I am not able to do and may have to shelve the project as a result. I will be pulling parts and appliances from various spare Spectrum shells. Not too happy with the look of the ashpan. I may use one from the spare Spectrum mountain shell though this would be a bit small. You can see how much I cut down the shell here. The boiler was reduced by about 4 feet. The cab by two. The shell above is a newer run, notice how much crisper the detail is.Oh, and this little guy:Any guesses what this will be?
Survived brain surgery and am now doing the slow, painful recovery thing. I have 14 staples in my scalp along with a patch of titanium mesh over a quarter-sized hole in my skull.
There you go again, Vollmer, always one-upping everyone. Just kidding, Dave. Here's hoping for a speedy recovery, with plenty of time for railroading.Jim
Yeah, I didn't make a big deal of it on TRW but a few months ago I was diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia after having sudden onset of stabbing, electric shocks all over the left side of my face, through the jaw, the cheekbone, and behind the eye. MRIs showed a compression of the 5th cranial nerve by a vein near my brain stem. The surgery I had on Tuesday was called a microvascular decompression.
