CP has a ton of AC44's and ES44's sitting around.

The lead unit takes a beating, packed snow can short traction motors etc.  Why would you want to do that to the newer GEs?

That stack train looked like a solid block of 53' containers. Interesting for me, since most of the container traffic in my area is generated by the Port of Oakland.

We get 2 kinds of stack trains through here - straight 53's and highly mixed. The 40's show up more regularly then I would have expected.

9500 series AC4400's are basically gone, most 8500 series AC4400's are back from storage. They're not spring chickens anymore... and CP (read EHH) isn't maintaining the newer GE's all that well. They're being run into the ground and are not sacred cows.

No kidding! the big GE's used to be rated for 5,000 tons max we took over 14,000 tons out of Scotford with a pair yesterday... Doubling hills has become a not uncommon occurrence...

I seem to recall some of the SD40-2s had modifications done to them for plow service. Perhaps that is the reason why they are being reactivated for that purpose. The ones we have out our end are just being used as regular power, I guess we will see if we get a bad enough winter to justify any plow extras...

The 8500s were going thru CAD for refurbishing, don't if that is continuing.

8500's were mostly stored over spring/summer and were next in line for retirement after the 9500's or so the rumours went, but are being returned to service (think most are back by now). Not sure about CAD, see what I can find out.

Not going to CAD, just bare essentials to get them back on the road at whatever terminal they were parked at.

The 9500's were going to CAD for truck harvesting for use on 8700-8759.
