The difference between the NE5 and the 6 is primarily the side panels? Is there anything else of major spotting difference?
The 'why not' is that every factory or modeler painted CGW NE-5 in history has had black running boards even though the clearest photo 'evidence' says that's not the case for all schemes. The problem is there's not a smoking gun type photo to change the establishment, just a bunch up ground up shots showing the ends and corner.
Atlas will deco the CGW models properly if you supply them with documentation that backs up your assessment.
The only shot I posted that shows the roofwalk having any black for sure is post merger. All the others are body color to me. I've got several more examples I can't post that show the exact same thing, no black visible at all. Someday a definitive shot will hopefully show up.You get it now Bryan? Jason
Think of how much work it would be to mask and paint around a mesh running board. Why would they do body color all the way? That's the part I can't rationalize.
We'll know if that's true based on whether the MN&S hopper gets fixed. That at least I can say I have "proof". The caboose I'll just paint as I see fit and probably won't say anything if they go with the black. I'm just glad they are making it and I don't have to spend any more money printing my shell to continual disappointment.
I know it doesn't hit many of you, but an NE-5 for me is as big as the FVM RIb Side caboose was for Milwaukee modelers. The CGW had 25 of these and was the staple of the caboose fleet. There are at least 12-15 paint schemes just between the CGW and CNW (merger). I'm in for 5-6 undecs but will be watching the artwork closely to hopefully get things as correct as possible even though I know I'll never convince them to not paint all the CGW running boards black.
