I believe most of these are from the former Jerry Glow decal line.

That's where the artwork came from, but it's a brand new decal printer!

Mr. Tichy,

I see a couple products I will be going for eventually (not now, I'm moving again).  Those GN sets will be major purchases (NP and SP&S too if they were avilable, and more CB&Q).

Might I recommend a couple directions to take?  More tank cars, reefers, and covered hoppers, paint schemes of the billboard variety especially?  While the PS 4427 isn't available at the moment, I imagine it will be soon enough and there are plenty of PTLX schemes left not done and some that will probably never be done by manufacturers.  In addition, there are tank car schemes out there with existing models to make good-enough replicas - Hercules, for instance.  And while I know there's no real meat reefer yet (my money is still on Pat @ Trainworx), there are a host of schemes that decals would fill voids for.  I recommend picking up the Morning Sun tank car and reefer books and thumbing through them.  For the 4427s, I'm sure I have images pilfered from the internet.

Can anyone tell me which Micro-Trains 2 bay open hopper to use for these L&N decals?

https://www.tichytraingroup.com/Shop/tabid/91/c/hopper-open1/p/10031n-ln-usra-hopper/Default.aspx

Thanks for any info.

Hmm... I would use a
rib side hopper...

Thanks a bunch, Dee.
Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.

I haven't tried any of these, but did just receive my second sheet of custom decals from Tichy.  The printing is clear, although that will depend on the quality of ones artwork, and the decals themselves seem to be very good.  The film seems to be a little thicker than Microscale's, but much thinner than the old Walthers.  It separates nicely, and doesn't require a long soak, yet doesn't fall off the backing as soon as it gets wet, like a few odd brands I bought many years ago.

Assuming the artwork is what you want, the decals themselves should be quite satisfactory.

I sent my third custom order a few minutes ago.  The first two were mostly capacity data, for modeling reweighed and restenciled cars, so consists of solid pages of mostly 3 inch N scale lettering.  It's all readable, and the 2 inch numbers on some dimensional data I used as fillers can also be read.  The one inch repack data can't be, but that's not surprising, as it can't be read on my original either.  Created at 800 DPI, the letters are only 5 pixels high.  If this is an ALPS printer, and can only print 600 DPI, they would be 4 pixels.  No way one can make a readable letter 4 pixels high.

Alps @ 600 dpi can print a single dot of 0.0017". That is 0.272" in N scale. To make a legible alphanumeric character you need a 5X7 matrix of dots.  So Alps can print lettering which is 1.9" height in N scale.  :)  Alps produces extremely sharp printouts - no fuzzy edges on the dots. That's why this is possible.

Um, the outcome depends on paper quality too.

These aren't Alps decals.  I'm not sure what the actual printer is called, but it's north of 6 figures.

Does it print white (either as a standalone ink or as an undercoat for the color inks)?  How about metallic colors?

Definitely white, as most of the offerings are white.  Don't know on the metallics. The decals have a certain thickness to the printing.

Do you know if colors are halftoned using CYMK inks or are they solid spot colors (like the silk-screened decals use)?
