You win.  The KCS unit is even stranger than the Louisiana one.  However, the second picture, of 642, looks a little better.  I think part of the "ugly" in the first one is the overexposure.  It looks like a defective video test pattern.

And, I agree, its having been designed by schoolkids means a lot.  I'm certainly not going to tell THEM it's ugly!

This announcement is pretty significant. Growing up in central Massachusetts, the first two railroads I ever knew were Conrail and the P&W. Conrail was awesome (as many of you will agree), but the P&W is awesome in its own way because it is a successful independent local company. Along with their freight business, they run a number of excursions for various groups every year, and their (almost) matching passenger train is always a great catch as a railfan. Hats off to all of those who made it a great railroad. The G&W will have a hard act to follow.
