I don't recognize the road, but the dual poles are probably for more current capacity.  They both seem to be on the same wire, but with 8 motors, that thing would draw a lot more current than the average interurban.

Geoff:  Thank you.  I've never seen a plant like it, and it probably doesn't grow wild in eastern Kentucky.

@w neal - what is the heavy electric painted for? Must have had some wiring challenges what with using two trolley poles and all.

@DeltaBravo  - I'd say that system is working for you. Any chance we could get a write-up somewhere?

Phil, I'll work on something and post. I still have a caboose and an RS2 as well as two more coal hoppers to letter.

Interesting:
Then: The railroad had money and kept the bridge nicely painted, while no one seemed to care about the surroundings.
You are free to drive in both lanes, if you dare
Now:  The railrod has not bothered about the bridge for quite some time but instead the city/county keeps the grass nice and tidy.
Overtaking no longer allowed, for increased safety.

Actually, no. It was a no-passing zone back then, too. There are yellow stripes (difficult to see) on both sides of the dashed line. The difference is adoption of standardized lane markings in the mid-1960s, which disallowed the dashed line within solid double-yellow striping.

The current manicured lawn is a private owner whose tending of the landscaping is generously incorporating the state's ROW. I can't recall exactly where this is other than being a bit of state highway in our general area we've doubtless driven a few times. That the power poles haven't moved in 60 years is astounding.

I stand corrected  :) I assumed dashed lines, in any form, indicated that you were allowed to cross the lines, as they would do here.

A picture, as promised.  Obviously, the ICG GP38-2, among many other things on my layout, needs weathering, but I like it!

Dave, I have to stop looking at your purchases, the ICG is another one of those railroads I have a passing interest in. Must resist temptation to purchase ICG locomotives and caboose. My locomotive and caboose collection is just all over the place. Must resist, what's that Locutus, resistance is futile  :scared: Now if somebody would make a Paducah GP10 rebuilt in ICG orange and white, I'd really be in trouble

Dave, Sounds like you had a great time in the land of Lincoln. You toured the Illinois Railway Museum and were able to tour of Kalmbach publishing, very cool. Did you get any photos of all of the project railroads? See any behind the scene stuff on the upgraded Beer Line project railroad? Or the New Canadian Loops N scale project layout?

Knowing how InterMountain is about releases you should be safe for at least a little while, but then you will be panicking as release dates grow close only to be disappointed because of some sort of delay... and people crap on Rapido Trains because of how slow some of their reruns/deliveries are...

This was my immediate thought as well.  Checking their FB page shows photos from over 2 years ago

@Rich_S,

Haha!  I know the feeling.  Sometimes, it's so hard to stay confined to a selected era and road.  This is why I pulled an @Dave Vollmer and am also now dabbling with On30.  That my wife is from Illinois and that she thought me having the Atlas GP38 in ICG colors as a memento of our trip didn't hurt.

We had a great time on our week-long trip to Illinois.  The Illinois Railway Museum was only about fifteen minutes from my brother-in-law's house, so that was a real treat.  When I went to Kalmbach Publishing, Steven Otte gave me the tour.  I saw David Popp, who was in a meeting but waved; Neil Besougloff, who said "Hi" from his office; and Cody Grivno and Eric White, who were working on the Beer Line extension in the MR Workshop.  I spoke to Cody for a few moments and complimented him on his work on the Winston-Salem Southbound project, e.g., the custom paint on the GP9.  (I used to live in Winston-Salem and once modeled the WSS.)  That conversation led to Cody pointing out that the Southbound layout was in an area that Steven wouldn't have led me to on the tour, so we slightly strayed from the regular tour.

I tried not to be a pest and spend all afternoon there keeping Steven Otte away from his duties, but I did grab some pictures:

Can you find the Seaboard Central heritage unit?

I just confirmed from the January 1986 issue of MR that the three buildings forming a city block in this shot taken on the MR&T are from the original MR project layout, the Seaboard Central!  Steven Otte didn't know these structures' history, but I was about 90% certain of what they were:

Ever since the 50th Anniversary issue of MR (January 1984), I have had an affinity for the Hiawatha Atlantics.  I didn't get a photo, but I saw the actual models of those 4-4-2s used in that article in a glass case on the tour, including the dilapidated (pre-restoration) model.  Cool!

I also saw the Virginian layout and the attached Thin Branch project, but I didn't get any pictures.  Anyhow, the trip was well worth the 1-1/2 hour drive from where we were staying in Illinois.  Everyone at MR was very pleasant and stopped what they were doing to say "Hi" or answer a question.  I highly recommend the tour, if you're ever in Wisconsin.

It was a great series (saved it all when MR was having their pre-preview promotion going on).  About a hour-and-a-half away but it use to be the highlight of my travels way back when, seeing all the various Southern boxcars waiting to be loaded or unloaded for RJR... still love the WSS and HPT&D and I guess I always will!!!  Just hate the HPT&D's classic engine house was tore down several years ago... now if only I can find my pictures of it...

Catt:  I'm still waiting for CP Rail boxcars from June 2013, as well as CB&Q boxes from 2014.  Those and the BN SD40-2 are all I have waiting from IM - everything else has either been cancelled or simply disappeared.

So far I have $341.65 in cancelled rolling stock, an undecorated flatcar that is nowhere to be found on their lists, and two 60 ft boxcars that were sold to Fox Valley, which I ordered in 2012.

Any wonder I don't trust anything IM advertises?
