Is it??? For a dcc ready version of most new locomotive the street price still seems to be between 60 and 85$. Depending on how much the dealer discount is these locomotives might wind up right in that window.

The first run had a 20% discount at mbk so that would put these at 80$ street, right in line with the just released Atlas Rs11.

I was referring to the street price for the U-28C, not other completely unrelated models.

I always wondered if Rapido (CA) caught any legal grief from Rapido (EU)?

Not like a trademark dispute between a computer company and a vacuum maker (true story).

Could be that the trademarks are either expired or regional.
For example there are two candies called Smarties.

Like I said, I don't think that rapido was ever used as a name of a company - it was Arnold/rapido.  Don't recall ever seeing N-scale model trains or their boxes with just the rapido name on them. Besides, at the time Rapido Trains came about, Arnold was probably bankrupt.  Rapido Trains also has a good explanation of their name (quoting their website):
The name RAPIDO was introduced by Canadian National in 1965 to headline the railway’s high-speed intercity passenger services. Until the mid-1980s, RAPIDO stood for fast schedules, frequent trains, and superb service. Today, we continue the RAPIDO idea with our state-of-the-art models and attention to detail.

But it sure is confusing - especially for the old-timers.

I'm not a lawyer but I "thought" the standard was "whether a reasonable person were likely to confuse the product/service".

Ie.  No one buying a VAX vacuum is going to accidentally purchase a $250,000 VAX minicomputer.  :)

Ah I see... I misunderstood when you said "any other new release". Did not know you meant only that model :)

As Peteski said, Rapido wasn't part of Arnold's name, just a brand for their N scale trains.  I suspect it was out of use before Rapido Trains was founded, so Arnold didn't care.  At least I don't remember seeing Arnold/Rapido products in the US after the mid 70s.

I am 70, but my rememberer seems to remember the company as Arnold Rapido in the 1960's, but the nickname Rapido, hence the coupler name. Maybe they settled on the Arnold nickname now since the Rapido Trains (Canada company) is using that name.
